I understand what you are saying Sath and on many levels agree with you but I think the reason why this gets news coverage over war deaths is because of the randomness of this. It is the same reason why plane crashes get more coverage and are sensationalized by the news while thousands and thousands die in car crashes on a regular basis and are not covered in the news.

If you watched "Breaking Bad" you would know that acid cannot dissolve through polyethylene plastic. That's the side benefit of watching one of the best shows on TV, you get to learn a lot about chemistry and making meth.

When I was in highschool I was the TA for the AP chem class and we had extremely high molar acid in the lab and I was talking to the teacher about that exactly because I wanted to make gun cotton at home. You have to have a special license and permit in order to purchase acid above a certain strength for sure. Also certain metals like magnesium, potassium and any of the metals on that side of the periodic table are restricted too. My guess is she stole the acid or just got the absolute strongest you can get legally without a permit which is still more than strong enough to cause severe skin burns.

Are they even sure that the chemical was an acid instead of something like lye? Caustic chemicals can cause burns like pretty much any drain cleaner you can buy at the store.
