Shimmering line that goes up and down on the screen with GeForce gtx 400.

I have been experiencing an issue with the game's graphics on my system, basically there's a one inch line that goes across the screen and shimmers, and it moves vertically and then goes back down. It's a distraction although it does not break the game. I was wondering if anyone else was having this issue and come upon a fix for it? Is it with all cards or just the geforce?

Amazing how many people are unfamiliar with screen tearing...

It happens when the framerate goes above your monitor's refresh rate, i.e. if you get 62fps and your monitor is 60hz you will see screen tearing, you can force vsync in the nvidia/ati control panel and it will go away but will also reduce your overall fps.

Does vsync work in windowed mode? Because i have vsync forced on but am still getting screen tearing (im running windowed mode, with matched res and borders/title removed for a pseudo full screen that wont crash when i click on something on my second desktop)

Vsync does not work and has been forced through nvidia's driver panel.

I don't think it works in windowed mode.

With some configurations the shimmering line can not be removed, no matter if you´re playing in windowed or full screen because forcing VSync in the ATI driver doesnt work in combination with FF XIV, at least with some monitors (like some IPS Panels).

This shimmering, flickering bar is really very annoying, its sime kind of tearing, but in a very bad and annoying way. If you have that problem, download Rivatuner v2.24c and install it. Click on Start/All Programs/Riva Tuner/D3DOverrider. You now have a little tool in your traybar running, there you can force Vsync and Triple Buffering both to be turned on, minimize the tool (dont close it) - voila, the shimmering line (or call it tearing) is gone!

The screen tearing so far for people that have ATI GPU's all they needed to do was grab ATI Tray Tools and Force V Sync through that and it was working pretty much all the time to everyone who was grabbing and following the instructions on ffxivcore if you go to their tech forums and search ATI Tray Tools you will find the post made by Pseudo. Theres also one for ATI Crossfire in FFXIV.
