I'll agree on the drops. I don't care about jumping as it will not add anything to the game whatsoever (impassable ledges would just be higher). Swimming does nothing for an RPG either (kinda' hated those parts in FFX).

But not being able to drop off of ledges is frustrating. At least let us walk down any kind of ledge, like FFXI. An interaction like "(!) Drop" when you're next to a 3~8 ft. cliff that simply lets you get down without accidentally falling would be a godsend.

There's an amusing bug where if you keep running out of WS range (or if you run far enough?) the game will consider the mob out of combat and it will start regaining HP at an insane rate. Good for extra skill ups though!

FFXIV has some issues but honestly a lot of what is said I just dont see. (im not saying people are lying just I dont see it) I have a fairly decent PC, Core i7 2.8 6 gig ram ATI Radeon 5770 ect. And the game crashes once every... 5-6 hours. The lag is.... never I dont have EVERYTHING on high but the graphics are good and I have them at above average levels. I use a controller and the UI does take a lot of getting use to but it really isnt that bad. I played AoC I played WAR I played WoW I played FFXI. And FFXIV feels like FFXI though the combat is fun and already I met people. FFXI had one of the most fun and active communities and I loved it, actually talking to people. In WoW I rarely ever talked to someone with intelligence and it was a solo grindfest(grinding quests is still grinding to me, its not grinding if its fun imo, which playing with people make it fun) But FFXIV already feels like an MMO.

Honestly I played Aion, WAR, and AoC, at release and WAR / AoC had way more issues at release and a month after release then FFXIV has. Aion wasnt technically a release because it was out in Korea for like a year and it was very polished.

FFXIV feels fine to me. It needs work. Guildleves and leveling and direction (I do feel lost sometimes, like idk where I can go to buy equipment and upgrade my gear) But bug wise I cant say Im having a ton of issues, and Im really enjoying myself. My main issue right now is I ran out of guildleves and I dont wana put effort into grinding right now because its OB.

I agree with Hyan in that FFXIV will eventually get to the point it needs to be. It's unfortunate it won't happen at release, but ultimately only SE can make or break this game. Definitely in terms of progression, party play, conning and guildleves need the most work. Not over night stuff either.

But I'm having fun, even doing random shit like crafting and gathering. Today I found a group of people willing to party, and while the actual party of 6 people was complete fail, it was the most fun I've had fighting. If FFXIV gets party play right, it'll definitely be a great game. The conning was messed up, and the most we killed was an orange Iron coblyn. The rest fucked us up.

Eventually everyone left and I duo'd with a pug, which was good. But we started messing around with BRs and jesus, how the hell do these things work? Aren't they supposed to have some special effects or something? We did a couple, but it just seemed like we were both using skills at the same time. It could be good later on, but right now I just wonder how the hell it works.

His post made me think about something that would be very welcomed in XIV. Templates should be implemented for classes so you don't have to spam a long macro every time you want to change job, just swap a weapon and bam skills are where you left them.

    @BR
It's a terrible system that needs a lot of work or scrapping. Skill chains worked fine not sure why they fucked this up just for the sake of being new.

I really hope people dont listen to that trash. It's almost worth asking you to take it down just so the noobs here dont get the wrong impression.

I'm in the process of writing my own impressions for the blog, I'll let you guys know when its done.

What? You cannot walk down any ledge in FFXI. 5 seconds in Beaucedine will show you this: You cannot just jump down a level anywhere, and the edges of the ramps between levels have invisible walls along them until you're pretty close to where it meets the upper level.

His reference is WOW and XI so pretty sure he's confusing them considering you can't swim in XI either.
    Spoiler: show
Why do people want mundane shit like jumping, swimming and sitting, it's a game not Second Life ffs!?

actually there were plenty of spots where you could walk off ledges in saruta, sauromugue, and battalia to name a few places. I'm sure others could name more.

As far as quest direction is concerned, would anyone be opposed to something like a "gossip house"?
It would essentially be a specific location in each city where a certain npc/s tell you where to get quests for your lvl, maybe +- 1 lvl. But they do it in a literal gossip manner. Something like:
"I heard that Mr. <npc surname> has been running into a shortage of supplies at the <general description of npc location> lately."
    Or,
"How horrible, <npc first name>'s <family member, friend, relative> was <attacked, kidnapped, injured, etc> <recent time period>. I hope they are doing alright"

Something like this which would help guide people to quests of their level, namely their class lvl at the time of interaction with the gossip npc, without having to literally put a icon on their head saying: "I got a quest, click me!"... for all those, hardcore immersion folks.

And there's plenty of spots where you can walk off of ledges in FF14. My point is, the invisible walls are no worse from one game to the other.

Call it Bar and make quest jobs then release it on the Playstation one. That seems more atmospheric but is kind of a pretty long setup for quest that will most often have you killing or collecting stuff like rat pelts or something mundane. Maybe if they made RP servers or something that would be more up some peoples alley or made that a starting point for major quest openings.

Wait do we have to accept a tutorial quest then go to the aetheryte and we get it on the spot?

I have been noticing an issue since the 09.04.2000 patch. Whenever I try to craft, in between each screen that pops up my game locks/flashes not responding for a split second and then continues on like normal. It never completely crashes I just keep getting these little locks, and it is annoying when doing a crafting leve because there is like 10 menus that you have to click through for each one.

Has anyone else been getting this?
