You will learn things at a natural rate ranking up your class. You can purchase what they have to offer after you start to earn marks, which are supposedly a reward from R20~ leves. There's lists of abilities around that you earn over ranks but you do not have to rely on them completely.
To leave LL you take the ferry. You will land in the western portion of North Thanalan. Ul'dah's in the middle-south of the map, and the road to the BLack Shroud is to the very east of the map. Follow the road, more or less.
Oh holy shit, wow we're stupid. Didn't even see that drop down list. Friend and I didn't think of it. Slow on the upkeep of this new game;
FFXIII was a terrible game, so let's no bother bringing that into the mix here. Let us all hope that FFXIV actually has some character development and isn't just all flashy graphics. At the very least, the combat system is far more engaging than XIII's ever was, and it ought to be if they plan on giving XIV any kind of shelf life.
It's 2010 and there have been a multitude of MMORPGs in our lifetimes (I'm 27 now), and certainly enough since FFXI was released. I appreciate SE's attempts to be original in their game design, but there comes a point when reinventing the wheel is just pushing stupid. I find VIT being tied into HP/MND tied to MP one of those things. It is an ancient game mechanic that, to me, screams "well we needed some way to make this stat more useful because we couldn't think of anything else". I will of course keep my fingers crossed that it isn't like this on release, but as each day passes, my optimism for the game dwindles just a little further. The beta has not been very impressive and while it is easier to bitch/moan/complain about it than offer constructive criticism, SE hasn't exactly given anyone the ability to utilize proper avenues since phase 2 (and I was in on phase 3 so I cannot offer them any feedback whatsoever). I also don't expect them to sift through all these speculation threads to find the suggestions and feedback they have otherwise requested from, at this point, a small slice of the actual playerbase now currently playing the game thanks to open beta.
I have a lot of complaints, but I won't list them. I just think it's silly to have VIT/MND control things like that. Even D&D 4e doesn't do that anymore and that's paper and pencil.
Some VIT testing:
VIT: 19 - HP: 584
VIT: 20 - HP: 598 (+14)
VIT: 21 - HP: 612 (+14)
VIT: 22 - HP: 627 (+15)
VIT: 23 - HP: 641 (+14)
VIT: 24 - HP: 655 (+14)
VIT: 25 - HP: 669 (+14)
VIT: 26 - HP: 684 (+15
VIT: 27 - HP: 698 (+14)
For now, it seems to be +14~15HP/VIT.
To Grey, I mean at least there's some HP you get naturally with each level. Personally this makes VIT a ton more useful... and it does have a dual purpose of lowering physical damage slightly so I mean, it really doesn't seem all that bad.
This is almost making me think of Ragnarok Online... sort of.
I almost put "inb4 boohoo XIII" but I had high hopes.
The Opo-opos were not bugged for me when I first started killing them, now they are and I keep punching them in the ass and they only occasionally turn around to hit me normally and don't use any abilities. They even occasionally run away from me mid-fight.
does physical level also raise HP/MP is so then i see no reason for crying. if not then guess your gonna need some vit to go with that str and dex
Also, where/how would one acquire a shield and use it? Thanks.
I'm fairly certain that HP is simply based on VIT x your class' multiplier. I can easily tell my 10 Pugilist gets a few hundred more HP than my 10 Fisher.
Physical Level seems to be purely your attribute and elemental affinity points you can distribute to make your chosen class the best it can be in whatever situation.
There are three shields for sale between the two main vendors in Ul'dah. Worm-eaten Square Shield (rank 14 I think) is ~43k, a Hoplon (rank 13?) for about the same, and then a buckler (rank 19) for about 95k.
When you equip a shield it places the action Guard in slot 2 of your action bar. It raises your shield arm for block procs.
Orz, 43k? T_T
It seems pricey but you get ~30k from doing mission in Ul'dah, and then Marmot pelts sell for ~450g/ea so making gil is fairly easy if you NPC everything in your bag to make the push. I was able to pick up a shield the second day and still have ~50k now.
Haha, finished a leve and it crashed as I ported back to camp. I'm sure they already know about that bug, though.
Oops! Well in that case that VIT test was for Gladiator/Wildwood Elezen(Pretty sure race isn't dependent on the effectiveness of stats but I guess you never know?)
And don't worry Gui. 43k is pretty easy to scrounge up with a few Lv.10 GLs + the stuff people mentioned above me.
