I keep saying to myself "I might go DoH at launch!"

And then I realise this means I've almost accepted the fact that I will be paying a subscription fee for taking on a third job...

So I partied for like an hour today and skill gains seem kind of messed up. Sometimes I would get 200 exp during a fight, but at the end none would be awarded. Sometimes I wouldn't get any and the other 2 guys would, sometimes one of them wouldn't and I would.

No real difference honestly if you think about it.

^ Sometimes you get double and triple sets as well. Its hilarious. I can gain 400 points in one fight, and not be awarded them, then gain 50 in the next fight, and see 150, 250, 200 at the end of that fight.

The randomness of these skillups is what has me furrowing my brow. What's it gonna be like for a 30-minute long fight when the game has to tally up ALL of those skill point gains throughout. Shit would have been easier just to set a normal value like every other game, or at least group everyone's skill points together then evenly distribute them.

SE wants to be different, but different isn't always better.

Edit: Since I'm all aboard the bitch-train, whose idea was it to force you to stop moving when you check someone's bazaar? I can't move to catch up to you running away, I can't buy from you if you're more than 5 yards away, and if I don't catch your name, I'm left either giving up or shouting blindly in hopes that you'll stop. There has to be a better way.

Yeah mining has been quite fun so far, though it was rather disheartening to find out that if I wanted to actually turn the shitloads of ores I have into something useful, I need fire CRYSTALS, bummer.

So should they stop trying and be the next Activision? :D

Anyway, some of this shit clearly doesn't work and I hope they'll redefine them down the road. AH is already at least in the planning stage and they better do something about the skill ups too, always makes me upset when I get skill but my friends don't.

Decent Cloth route for the guy asking is doing the 2x Moko Grass with 8 Lightning Shards recipe. That will make 12x Hempen Yarns, then you can make a hempen cloth using 6 earth shards and 3 hempen yarns. I use the spin wheel for the cloths and the needle for the yarns, seems to work best.

This is a serious problem. Fire crystals are hard as hell to get and require you to level alchemy??/
Why on earth can't you use fire shards for ores...

The crystal system worked so well in FFXI for crafting. Really don't know why they had to go and fuck it up. Furthermore, if you are holding crafting tools, what the hell is the point in the crystal anyway?

ps. I'm drowning in ores, as are most other miners. There is literally nothing to do with them until SE changes the recipes or method of acquiring crystals.

I suppose "wannabe novelist, English teacher, online fisherman" has a certain ring to it for my CV.

I can imagine the job interviews:

Interviewer: "So it says here you PAY a company a fee to let you fish, online, every month. What kind of skills does that let you bring to the table?"

Me: "Well, I'm REALLY good at hot and cold games now"

They aren't trying very hard. Most of these are simple modifications to FFXI's code. Bazaar system is similar to FFXI's. Class Skill Points are a modified (and poorly) weapon skill points from FFXI. Apparently they stopped trying before "Activision" even put out WoW.

You know, when FFXI came out it was a buggy, horribly imba POS too. Does anyone even remember the TP bug for Monks? When Item Synthesis randomly made two items? When delivering two of the same item to your Mog House caused the first item to... Disappear? When "Bind" used to last forever (you could solo ridiculous shit because attacks never made it wear off)?

When Arrows only stacked to 12 and costed fortunes, making Ranger completely unplayable for a year?

You ppl seem to think FFXIV's bugs are some sort of 'anomaly', some sort of 'sign the game is headed for failure'. This is NOTHING compared to FFXI - NOT EVEN CLOSE - and look how far that went.

For a fun-filled trip down memory lane, try http://zeusls.llima.net/download/ffxiupdatehistory.html

The bee had the WS "Final spear" which was impossible to dodge and dealt up to 1800 damage (bees doing Meteor damage of a king behemoth hahah...). And since they agrod anyone which were not high 40s, people started to leave the area.
Prior to this patch. Every WS using a sneak attack had its critical effect on every single hit. (Hence monks were doing 1700 damage per raging fists)

The common response when you bring that up seems to be to say the date. Like someone says "All MMOs have had these types of problems upon release", the proper answer, it seems, is to say "2010". I don't know what that means, but be prepared for someone to tell you the date because of the observation you just made.

Gotta say that I'm enjoying the beta so far. Other than the laggy UI/mouse, the game is absolutely beautiful. Still trying to figure things out so I definitely need to find a guide somewhere out there. The logs claim that I've learned new skills... but I can't seem to find/equip them

Of course their hands are tied up to some point. Be too experimental, and the risks involved won't be worth it. Especially if shit hits the fan and things don't work out as planned, it's hard if not impossible to change them later on.

Belittle their efforts all you want, but for a game of this budget even these changes might still be too experimental and drastic.

Yup I still don't understand why the hell can't you just use your shards to smelt the ores into a nugget, ingot or whatever. Why does the most simpliest synth have to be such a hard one to do, why SE, why?

I'm not belittling anyone. If there's any belittling going on, its on SE's part in the way they treat their subscribers. I simply said that trying to do things differently from everyone else with even the must mundane of game system (checking a freakin bazaar.) isn't always the best idea, especially when it turns out buggy and inefficient.

If you think that's belittling, so be it.

"They aren't trying very hard", yet now you say they are seemingly trying almost too hard. Make some sense for once.
