They're doing things their own way. They always have. They've seen successful alternatives and failures. They continue to push their own way. Its as clunky now as it ever was. It is what it is.

Somebody has to, so that the genre won't grow stagnant.
I don't like some of these changes, and I hope they'll be changed down the road, but I will never criticize them for trying.
If they don't realize it themselves, we will hopefully make them understand. Loss of subscriptions is the best incentive.
Has anyone seen the gear/item reward of a leve change upon trading in leves? I've only seen the gil/marks go up...
Their not doing anything amazingly innovative or new. Surprised no one is talking about how they renamed fatigue to bonus skill, they must know were stupid...
I remember in P3 I got a leve with only money as a reward, but when I actually did the leve the day after there was an axe as a reward too. I dunno what happened, but I'm 99% sure I just didn't forget about the axe when I took the leve.
Of course not. Also, they're thinking of rewards for the 'bonus' skill, so the name would make more sense. Right now it's only hilarious though. There not doing anything amazingly innovative or new. Surprised no one is talking about how the renamed fatigue to bonus skill the must know were stupid...
I think the key to this game = Don't expect much until at least 8 months down the road.
Would I even consider playing this game if all of the cool people I met in XI didn't want to roll up on XIV and play together again? Fuck no, I would just fire back up my WoW sub for cataclysm. I don't consider XI as a game that was fun by itself, it was the people I met along the way that made the game fun for me.
This is all 14 has going for itself at the moment for me, I think it's worth atleast the free month to see all those old people I got to know over the 5 years of playing XI who are going to show up for XIV. I'm not expecting too much from the release tbh, I expect epic galaxy screaming QQ come on the 22nd of how much they didn't fix for retail.
Does anyone suspect the fatigue system to be temporary, for example ps3 release, or 1 year from release, or do you all suspect it to be permanent in nature completely?

Oh yeah, I'm bitter (although not surprised) for them to release the game as unfinished as it is. I expected more, silly me.I think the key to this game = Don't expect much until at least 8 months down the road.
At least from now on I can see clearly where the game is heading.
The rewards for leves do change on their own either every 24 hours or when the leve system resets every 48. (I'm guessing 48hrs)
It's set up so when you trade in your old completed leves (up to 4) back in when you receive a new leve, its rewards will be "enhanced" based on the * rating of the ones traded in. I've seen the awarded gil or guild marks be increased in this manner, but I haven't seen any change to the equipment reward. I'm wondering if you could possibly get high-quality or multiple, or different color/material/etc. of the normal reward by trading in a bunch of *s.
edit: Dumb glitch, when completing a fishing leve, your Guardian's Aspect will technically wear off before you reel in that last catch and receive your skill points so you never get the full bonus skill points from your last catch.
also: To whoever was asking about underwear, it can be crafted. I'm considering buying a new bra from this bazaar......
Oh I've beat that horse to death on the EU beta forums. I think that even the most impassioned people on here -- and I'm not necessary talking Squeenix fanboys or the SEDF (I after all, am the former) -- have become resigned and perhaps even apathetic to the fact that this game is not going to live up to its promise on release.
Are SE listening to the feedback we give them? Maybe. But they are very slow at responding and implementing any changes, to the extent that even if they ARE listening, they do not seem to be doing so, because nothing has come about from this.
We still have two weeks of open beta testing. I am not a developer. I can barely write HTML let alone actual programming code. So I do not know how easy it is to tweak the numbers and stuff. To me, the numbers seem wrong. Maybe they aren't. Maybe SE really are trying to push a game that is MORE grindy than FFXI, and also more random. If that's their intent, they are succeeding. Score 1 for SE on the innovation front.
But the bonus skill thing. That REALLY pisses me off. I'm an English teacher and a writer, as I probably keep repeating. This doesn't make me qualified to talk about anything on a development front but GOD DAMN if you are going to translate a system into English for an international release, use grammar that makes sense. "Bonus" skill points, "surplus" skill points, whichever of those you want to call them. Neither term is even vaguely correct on a lexical level.
marmots and chigoes seem to be placeholders for those precious faerie funguars. I was running around looking for mushrooms and I couldn't find any so I killed a bunch of squirrels.
Like, what?
Getting this game up to the standard from Phase 1 isn't something you can do in 3 months. I think they've updated a lot in that time, even if it isn't even nearly enough. The process going to take a lot longer, but I wouldn't say that they haven't listened so far. They are getting there, even if alpha > beta1 was a letdown.
I'm talking about incentives to party, mostly. They keep saying they're working on it. And have been since the start of beta1.
If they haven't thought of any way of incentivising patry-based leve play then maybe there's something fundamentally wrong with the system at its core?
I agree that yes, they've updated a lot. And I know it must be hard to polish systems -- as you can tell from my display pic I dabble in digital art from time to time so I know how difficult it can be to refine something. I just can't see why with some of the more fundamental systems for a multiplayer game they haven't stuck to the systems they already got down in FFXI.
I don't know what the Linkshell, Friendlist, Chat commands were all like in XI at launch. But they're pretty damned good now. So why in XI do we have a Linkshell list that doesn't even tell you whether someone is online or not....
I'm logging in now to test this for myself, but is this actually doable now? Last I tried it was 8 leves total. Did it change?Originally Posted by Yukikaze, EU Beta Forums
Experience and skill gains are only displayed to the person who dealt the killing blow, as far as I can tell. Beyond that, party gains suffer from the same variance that solo gains do. Also, keep in mind that the "You gained ___ skill points" message after the end of a battle is a summary of total gains, not a bonus in of itself -- though it may reflect the skill gain from the kill alone, if no gains were made during the fight.
Yes, I think so too. But I also know that they aren't going to be satisfied until it works as they intend. I hope it doesn't take them a year to fix it, but I don't think I need to say it will be fixed down the road.
It's actually my #1 reason not to pick up the game right now. If they want my money, they better get to work. Just raising or lowering exp ain't gonna do the trick.
Urgh, that's misleading. They should just display the summary at the end of the battle instead of spamming up the log with redundancies.
The naming change heavily hints that they're taking the suggestion of using fatigue/bonus skill as a resource for upgrades to heart.Their not doing anything amazingly innovative or new. Surprised no one is talking about how they renamed fatigue to bonus skill, they must know were stupid...
Probably asked and answered, but I'm confused.
Can you actually register for a guild and how do you accrue guild marks?
Does anyone know where to buy a marbled eye in gridania?
