Personally, I dislike the system not because it potentially limits me, but because SE is trying to control player growth. It's more ideological than practical (though it may prove to be both). Also, if most people don't hit it, it doesn't need to exist.
With the horribad design around skill gains why would anyone party at all? Less chances to skill for less exp gains unless your zerging something that's red. They need to refine party mobs and the skill system so this doesn't just force people into shifting gears because you have to party. Hand-holding should be an option not a requirement to get anything decent.

Have you tried the mining guild? I know there is a npc that says it sells the tools for all the gathering classes but only has fishing and harvesting.

Has anyone heard anything about what they plan to do about RMT? I know they've implemented really good measures like not being able to alt-tab while in game and having an archaic economy system. So what else are they planning....?

Oh yeah, I suppose the mining guild would make sense, I'll look there first when I get home. I was just expecting a shop that sold them all like the ones for DOW/DOM classes.

Yeah, it'll be in the miner's guild. There's an NPC in the market area of each town that sells the tools for the 2 gathering classes that aren't home to that city.

    You cannot stop RMT.

There will always be demand = There will always be RMT.

Actually, I think you can stop RMT. If the game is as fail as it is currently, there won't be any demand and with that being said, there won't be any RMT! Done and done.

Also, looks like per the .dat mining on Alla that SE is at least still focusing on development....of FFXI, anyway.

Sorry sometimes I don't make my post as literal as they should be. For those in need of spoon feeding what I meant by "what are they doing?" is how are they going about preventing rampant RMT.

Here in the SE office we got bored of Opposite Day. As such, Mr. Tanaka suggested we instead do something more innovative. For that reason we started Opposite Year. For the past 5 years, we've taken everything all other successful MMO games have done in to consideration, and done the complete opposite. I hope you like it!

I have accepted an Armorer leve and went to the guy in Camp Brentbranch to try and do it. NPC says I don't have the items, do I need to buy the crafting items before talking to them? Do I need to make the items first? I thought someone said before that you can do crafting leves without buying/farming items.

Read the Guildleve, you probably have to talk to a NPC first to get the materials.

That is the kicker. Zerging something that is red is a horrible idea as damage scales far too quickly and it is easy to get 1 shot by any red monster, even if its relatively close to being orange. Toss in the fact that every monster has some form of ranged attack, and enmity is a touchy subject and it can become quite unstable to fight anything that is difficult. Until they make skill ups uniform per kill or uniform across a party at least, party play is only for those players who want to actually play an MMO the way the genre suggests ... as a social multi-player experience. They are detrimental to character growth. In order to fix this, SE will have to go back to the drawing board on their skill up philosophy.

Duoing can still be worthwhile in the right situation, but the system as a whole just needs a lot of work. It's kind of backwards in this game. Most games you'd want to find the mobs that are the quickest and easiest to kill at a given level, however in XIV you usually want the mob with the largest hp:damage ratio (high hp, low damage) so that you can get the most hits off each.

It'll say the name of the NPC you need to talk to at the very bottom of the journal entry for that quest. You talk to them once, they give you the materials, and then you go into synthesis mode and use the Requested Items button (I think that's what it says...it's at the top of the mat selection interface), find the quest in the list, confirm, and it should add the mats in for you. Craft the items, then talk to the person again. If you failed too many, you don't have to do anything after finishing all attempts, the quest should be gone from your journal.

anyone messed around using main hand vs. off hand for crafting? So far I don't seem to notice any difference between the two.

They should just tally everyone's skill up and distribute evenly through out the party. Give penalty for level difference so as to not carry people.
