    Maybe if we complain enough.

That goes for Japan too. Because if the glorious nippon players are complaining, they have no choice but to change it.

I also want the Market Wards to be forced into some sort of organization since an international community of MMORPG nerds need to be guided by the hand as a whole to get anything done regarding that aspect. I feel like they expected the players in general to deem certain Market Wards focused on certain item types ourselves and wanted the system to evolve naturally into something, which it probably won't. Shit, how many years of FFXI did it take before the communities deemed Rolanberry Fields a simple place to park mules and bazaar expensive goods? Frankly, I feel like they based the Market Wards directly on what they saw happen in Rolanbazaar. "They're just going to park mules to bazaar their items outside of town... Let's make a place to park free bazaar mules inside town!" Ta~da. Now we lost a way to easily find simple items that normally got exchanged on a daily basis.
The more you make the market wards functional, the more it'll start to resemble an AH. Make it searchable and add a price history? Grats, you've got an AH, you only have to teleport/run to a ward and try to find one particular retainer in the slowly loading mess before you get your item. Oh, and maybe someone will have beat you to it during that time too. Trying to be different just for the sake of being different is retarded.

Something simple like giving the wards names that would have some actual meaning would be of some help already. Jeweller's Ward, Chef's Ward or whatever. But no, Lower Keener's Ward and East Fripper's Ward sound way better.

Market Wards and retainers are actually decent ideas, but they can function perfectly alongside an AH. Want to offload some crystals asap and don't mind a slight pricehit? Go to the wards and find someone buying them.

The problem with naming the wards after the merchandise is that it limits the stuff you can put on your retainer. You put your retainer in the weapons ward and you can only put weapons on your retainer. The armor or crystals you wanted to sell will have to wait.

Or you can buy more retainers. mo money for square

Lmao.. That is the funniest and truest thing I've read in awhile.

I like others would like a AH and more mobs available in the starter areas and on and on. Pretty much what has been stated to death on here.
Here is to a quick and painful death to the market wards.

Oh yeah, it wouldn't really solve the problem, just might make it a bit more bearable. Adds some inconvenience for selling stuff, but more convenient for buyers, so your stuff could actually be found and hopefully sold. Would maybe even spread people out over more wards. Just saying it'd be an easy change that might even make it all a bit less of a clusterfuck.

That's what I am expecting to happen instead of an Auction House. It will have the same basic function, but it will please the developers in their little quest to make the market system more realistic in terms of items not magically teleporting from city to city, from mog house to rent-a-room, and give the illusion of people selling their wares in a more personable manner instead of anonymous AH lists.

The obvious difference being what exactly, that they appeal YOU specifically in a thread about what each individual wants to see in the game? They fit your specific idea of what SE thinks their game should be? Did you even read the convoluted argument the guy I was referring to tried to make about an AH supporting monopolization more than the market ward system before getting on your high horse?

Auction House, Search, and quicker menus / less screens top my want list.

Other things like being able to see party members on the map, inviting, search comments, less need to repair items, and more "camps" are also concerns. Oh, and it'd be nice if Anima and Leves charged quicker.

The reason why XIV gets compared to XI so much is because both MMOs are created by Square. It's only natural for all of us to think Square learned all of these things from working on XI and would include it in XIV from the start. There aren't even NMs yet as far as I've seen! NM Dodo or Crab would scare me though....

There's a lot of people coming out of an 8 year old MMO into this one that are unrealistically expecting to have an existing economy, known optimal group setups/dynamics, and understandings of mob behavior/repops/cons/etc. Not to say any of those things aren't flawed in their basic execution, but they also couldn't even be completely understood yet. Attribute effects haven't even been completely explained yet. They have obviously been trying to fix some of the shortcomings and abused mechanics of XI through XIV while simultaneously creating a lot of shortcomings of its own.

    @Miokomioko
Do you believe FFXIV in its current state is a "complete" game, and wasnt released prematurely? Is it so unrealistic for people to expect this much from a game they paid 60$ for?

Nobody expected FFXIV to offer as much as FFXIV right from the start, but that doesn't mean they can't expect a little more than what they got...

Oh of course not, the game was rushed bad and I would hope everyone is aware of it. I just think the basic concepts behind the mechanics they are trying to make work could eventually work and will eventually work through inevitable and frequent adjustments/patches. Currently, things like enemy gauging, market wards, party skilling, etc. do not work properly.

My biggest issue is with people who don't think it's naive and pointless to gripe about Square-Enix needing to completely scrap some system of theirs for something that is convenient for them (mostly because it's familiar/faster) and removes all the teamwork, community, discussion, and such that Square-Enix's MMO developers get boners over... which I think is the sole reason behind a lot of the vague and unexplained shit they like to have in their games. XIV is more solo-friendly than XI, for sure, but I think an underlying concept they are trying so hard to keep tied into most activities in their MMORPGs is the idea that ambiguity and mystery bring the game's communities together to figure them out and encourage organization to make everything easier for each other (example: WS formula discoveries) . I don't necessarily support that all the time at all. I have some faith that as they see it not happening quick enough and as complaints pile up in the suggestion box, I'm sure things will begin to be adjusted to be less annoying and inhibiting to keep their subscription numbers healthy.

I don't think XI's current form can be used as a reference at all anymore because it is now officially "old" (read:"dying?") and they are doing everything they can to add straight-forward but long-lasting content (level caps, empyreans) and make it look as easy as possible (abyssea exp) to keep players paying subscriptions. However, I have seen a number of people complaining about how they don't understand how things in XIV currently work... as if they expect everything to be tested and experimented with 2 days into the game... and get all up-in-arms about it as if the game just sucks because they lack the ability to read up on shit. It blows my mind when someone's major complaint is something like "No chat filters? WTF?!"

For example, I know the enemy gauging system is incredibly vague and crappy as it stands. Someone fights a 'green' Firefly and it's cake. Then, they fight a 'green' Dodo and get their shit pushed in. Yeah, it currently sucks... Live and learn. But, that situation doesn't automatically mean the whole game blows ass and they need to "scrap" the color-coded gauging system (same as EP/EM/T/VT/IT) and just put enemy levels up there to just "make it easy." It's an admittedly extreme case of different mob types of similar levels not always representing similar difficulties in XI... I assume it will be fixed in the near future to be more accurate, but it's something that can be, from now on, understood and avoided. Lesson learned: Dodos are gnarly shit. It was the same lesson that every non-BLM learned in the early days of XI when they started swinging a sword at an elemental for the first time and that hasn't changed at all.

With all that wall of text said... I'm having fun playing the game. For those of you who are not, I would just recommend waiting 3~6 months until some of the major shit has panned out.

I feel it was released too soon as well. I played FFXI for years and want FFXIV to succeed and I feel they still have a lot of work to do. My biggest complaint is the UI and the casting while on conjurer. It's better than beta but when I cast a spell, there's a delay before my character actually starts casting. After it "responds", there's more delay after the casting bar is at max and that causes my spell to actually be a 5-7s cast instead of the 2s cast it states.

And it's naive to think FF14 will survive in a market dominated by WoW and WoW clones by trying to be a next-gen MUD. The last MMO I'm aware of that had anything like what SE seems to be aiming for with Market Wards was EverQuest prior to its third expansion pack like ten fucking years ago.

Couldn't you effectively replace an Auction House with a bazaar/retainer search? Or would that go against SE's idea of chaos?

Actually, as far as I know EVE Online has the same principle with their economy. And that game isn't doing too bad.

Of course it depends on what you mean by "surviving in the market". 5 million players or gtfo?

But yes, you are right. MMORPG's are a dying breed. Pseudo-MMO online RPG's are the future, sadly.

SE's idea is to make selling and buying items (a bigger) part of the gameplay itself, especially for DoH and DoL. I don't think AH system is what they're looking for.

Well, the sooner they realize their vision won't meet with reality, the better. Or it might, but the player's won't like it. We don't think of it as a gameplay feature, just an inconvenience on the way of the "real gameplay".

If "true" MMOs are dying (read: Boring, grindy, confusing, archaic social sword-fighting games set in the middle ages and peppered with ancient systems and concepts that heavily punish the player in an attempt to force group play and repetitive grinding) then yes, MMOs are dying (because they won't make money in today's market like the new games will!) and I hope they never revive.

The day of "punishing" the player merely for playing your game should be over. There's a vast difference between punishing a player for failing a part of the game (I'm fine with this - pick yourself up and try again), and punishing a player for installing your game. I don't want -anything- handed to me outside of the "respect" of the company for me choosing to pay for and play their product, and the assurance that if I have technical problems with and within their game, they will do whatever they can that is within their power to rectify that problem.

I felt that semblance of respect when I paid blizzard. If I had a problem and sent it in, someone responded quickly, both in-game and through email, and thanked me for playing and paying. Any problems I had were resolved. I felt like a customer, not a mere guest in a foreign country.
