IMO, that request is a bit naive, since this might allow powerleveling and afk leveling.

A simple solution would be to put in the same 'ol level-gap penalties on skill/exp. Also, AFK-leveling is something you just boot people for, that's a non-issue.

Another thing I want is combat to not be doomed to suck forever because of bad design choices. I also want is for this game to flop in the future so SE gets a clue to the point where they might learn something and stops shoveling off shit as a finished retail product. Also for SE to advert the current trajectory of becoming a bigger name brand prostitute then say a Super Mario.

Not really sure how you'd want that to work, unless you were planning to have someone photoshop a picture of Tanaka elbow-smashing a XIV box into little pieces and then captioning it as "JACKED UP".

A "best performance" mode, similar to what Perfect World International has. Basically, it's a button you press for use in laggy areas which reduces the number of players that load up at any one time, and gives loading priority to NPCs and party members. Just spent three minutes running back and forth waiting for my local leve NPC to load up amongst a crowd of players, very frustrating.

Even if they put that in, you'd have to restart the game for it to take effect, which would kind of defeat the purpose of turning it on.

SE games simply aren't designed to have graphical changes while the game is running. You can't macro in a bunch of console commands to boost or nerf graphics with a click of a button like you can in some other games.

Hell, just alt-tabbing blows the game up on fullscreen. Let them handle the simple graphical issues before they worry about the complex. SE has to learn how to crawl before they can learn how to walk and run.

I wouldn't say "naive" - I had thought of this, but I wasn't sure it was even a real problem at the time. Additionally, the current system doesn't do anything to counter power leveling at all.

However, this does seem to be the thing that the XIV team is trying to address with the random SP gains, so we should probably try to come up with something to address, if there is any hope of Square considering such a thing.

Anyway, as far as party leeches go, you can always Oust those people as Mioko said. But obviously RMT and whoever this is really aimed at aren't going to do that, so it's not a complete solution. So there needs to be an additional criteria to be able to receive your piece of the pie.

The simplest criteria would be that you need to get on the threat list, but that's too little and easily manipulated. So I think each player would needs to contribute a certain number of actions relative to the total number of party actions, up to a set number after which the player is automatically deemed worthy of a share.

So say we're killing something with a party of 5, and the entire party uses 100 actions total. If you didn't use at least 10 actions during the fight, you don't get a share of the SP pool.

How the actual percentages and the like work out would likely need to be tuned, but I think...

    ( 1/2 * ( Total Party Actions / Party Members ))

...seems like it could be a good starting point and account for the action use variance inherent to different party roles.

BTW, right now I'm defining an "action" as anything the game currently gives SP for. So casting AoE Cure and restoring HP on 5 people would count as 5 actions.

Now, I think this system could be easily extended to counter powerleveling, too - enemies just track total actions, and if "too many" actions come from outside the party, then "outside the party" gets a share, which means it simply evaporates.

    Any thoughts on this?

It doesn't seem to be any more or less bottable than the random thing they have now, and I think it adequately accounts for the variance different party roles will likely have.

The random SP gain could be easily fixed by increasing the skill up rate to 100% for each action you perform and adding a static SP gaining formula for each category of actions just like FFXI's Besigied/Campaign.
Are you healing your party members for 0 HP while fighting a decently high level mob? You get 0 SP. Are you healing them for 1k total? 100 SP.
Is your Slow being resisted? 0 SP. Did it land on 3 mobs? 3 * 30 SP.
Are you hitting a mob 10 levels higher than you for 100 damage? 50 SP. Same level as you? 5 SP. 10 levels lower? 1 SP.
If the chat log becomes annoying to read just add a filter for low SP gains and if any of the above becomes easily exploitable (i.e. cures and aoe stuff in general) just add a cap to them.

Yeah, as I was writing my previous thing, I was thinking it might need to head towards this... with a few caveats.

The problem with campaign is that everyone doesn't get the same amount, which I think is unacceptable for exp. parties. If you pool and divide w/ some kind of threshold requirement to get a piece of the pool, then I think it could work.

...But they'd need to pay special attention to each job's ability to contribute to the SP pool or make it very easy to cap, otherwise I worry that certain jobs just won't get invited. In XI, some jobs got amazing exp. from campaign, and others got very little at all, and that could be really bad in a pooled party environment.

I went with the previous proposal because as much as the random thing sucks, the system is there and seems fairly consistent. In XI they clearly had zero interest in balancing the different jobs' ability to exp. in campaign, and I kind of expect the same situation could happen here. To really make it fair for XI, I think they'd need different parameters/caps for each job type, so I expect that the same would be required if they were to go this way.

Posted for the third time on various forums, my fix to mostly all complaints regarding FFXIV:

    Spoiler: show

    Event-related

-Chocobo Stables have been unlocked for adventurer's to use.
*In order for Adventurers to access chocobo carriages, they must be Rank 15 or higher, and must have completed; “Calamity Cometh”, “Never the Twain Shall Meet”, or “Beckon of the Elementals.”
*Chocobo carriages will be able to take adventurers between Ul'dah, Gridania, and Limsa Lominsa at a price of 1,000 gil a trip.
*Chocobo carriages will be able to take adventurers between the three starting cities and any camp within the surrounding region, for a price to be determined by camp. Future plans are being made for travel to the regions Coertheas, and Mor Dhoma.
*Chocobo carriages are computer automated and cannot be controlled.

-Levequest have gone under a major change.
*One regional and one local Levequest can be undertaken every two hours.
*If you do not partake in a levequest every two hours, the NPCs who distributes Levequest will store up to 16 quest. (8 region and 8 local individually)
*As a result to increased availability to levequest, gil rewards have been slightly lowered.

    -Market Wards
*An NPC has been added to all instances of the Market Wards which will be able to find precise information of what retainers all selling.
*When talking with this NPC, they will bring up a menu in which you will be able to search all retainers.
*The NPC will display information following this patern:
[Marmot Pelt 500g. (Unit Sale) 1/11 (Retainer Name/Market Ward Location)]
*This NPC will be able to buy the item directly from the retainer and place it in your inventory for a 3% surcharge.
*Items will be displayed in the order as followed:
Rank->Name->Price (If a item does not have an optimal rank, they will be displayed by Name->Price)

-Skill points gained in parties will now be distributed in a different fashion.
*All skill points gained between all party members will now be added up and distributed evenly across all participating members.
*Players who's rank is 10 ranks bellow the highest party member will not be able to receive the distributed skill points. Instead, they will only receive the skill points they themselves earn throughout the battle.

*This option allows you to repeat the last synthesis attempted, and will automatically load all materials into the slots.
*By default, the "Repeat Synthesis" option will use the lowest quality items. You will be able to change this in the configuration screen by choosing the option, "Highest Quality."

-A "Synthesis Recipes" option has been added to the menu.
*This menu will display all recipes that you have attempted in Local Leves, attempted to synthesize, or have learned from completing a Local Leve.

-HUD display can now be customized.
*Mini-map, Chat display, Action Bar, Stamina Bar, Target HP, HP, MP, TP, Party Members, and Enemy Party displays can all be moved

I wrote this up just because these ideas where the most numerous complaints I heard. It addresses issues like grinding for hours with little in return, manageable inventory issues, durability wearing too fast, forcing players into crafting, traveling from place to place less of a chore, targeting mobs, targeting players, and a tons more other issues. Spending 10 minutes walking from camp to camp or running back to town every time your gear goes below 25%, doesn't make you anymore hardcore than the next person, it just waste everyone's time. It would make the game a lot more enjoyable for more people, while keeping our hardcore group satisfied.

Now to fix the issue of lack of content to do...

And you wrote it just like SE would if it was real! Bravo, seriously.

Edit: Read this again, then had to check the lodestone to make sure it wasn't real. Make all of this happen. Seriously. I'd buy 3 months worth of crysta if half the changes there were implemented. I was ready to fire up the game just reading over the skill point section.
