Jump Festa trailer is out!
That was pretty badass, pumped for this now.
so, @2:40 is what everyone's calling Empyreal Paradox? I definitely don't see it.
I mean, there's a chance it could be, but that location is so generic and bland looking it could be anywhere, especially when a giant blue floating crystal is probably located somewhere in almost every single FF game.
Especially when you consider the CS that is happening belongs to Bartz, and the Exdeath fight at the end of FF5 occurs in an "outer space" looking area, complete with stars and blue crystals.

Can sort of see it. Hope to see more of that area later. http://kadas.goteki.net/import/0102_...9_18.49.29.png Some similarities like the rim of it and the blue crystal. May not be picture perfect could be tweaked.
What was that summon at 3:49? Guessing it was from something post FF8 or I just don't remember
Edit: Souj, the only issue I have with that is there are already 2 Void stages, isn't this just another void stage if that were the case?
Looks like Belias from 12. Also that was definitely Yuna. Where were Laguna and Squall talking?
Yeah, that definitely looks like the Empyreal Paradox to me.
The floating fragments that are a bit off the ground, the crystal in the background... the way the ground looks. Everything looks like EP.
The summon is Brynhildr
The place where Laguna and Squall talk is the Crystal Tower from FFIII.
And I honestly don't know how you can still deny that it's Empyreal Paradox... sure it doesn't look exactly like FFXI's version but it's pretty damn obvious.

agree with the point about Empyreal Paradox. its most distinct features are identical to the real EP.
the floor, the blue circular rim, the swirling particles and the floating crystal..
I'm not saying it isnt EP, but Square has a habit of re-using floors, blue circular rims, swirling particles and especially floating crystals.
yes, but Dissidia is clearly a game meant to take us on a nostalgia trip, so they've been putting in extra effort to make arenas resemble the original areas as much as possible.. some of these details are very evident, like the cloud formations in the FF5 arena - practically identical to the ones in the original used in the ending.
and while the starfield background glassy crystalline dungeon setting has been pretty commonly used, EP is the only one with the combination of floating giant crystals, a circular blue rim and the swirling floating particles..
and i actually have to disagree with the 'especially floating crystals' bit. None come to mind.
Crystals were featured heavily in many FFs but apart from Crystal World in FF9 and the Great Crystal in FF12, they have never been in much abundance to just be floating around. You may probably think so because they're just a strongly recurring theme
lol, okay, watched the video. How the fuck could you not see it?
So how was Dissidia as anything more than a tribute game? Is it simplistic? Does the leveling up system ruin any sense of competition?
Not sure if you're asking this for real or responding to someone else but I got it because friends of mine were finding cheap PSPs for $50 so we got them to play each other. I used a save file to get level 100s since I got the game for multiplayer, not to play RPG (did play the storyline though just to see it). They at first tried to level and get gears themselves but overtime just caved in and got the save file also.
Game is fun though with multiplayer, other than that it's alright when fighting computer or doing storymode but the only real reason for it was facing other people with classic FF characters usually. Storymode may be better now but I'd still get it for the multiplayer. Sadly, Ad Hoc bleh bleh ._.
It's pretty simplistic, but some characters had more depth than others. The main problem with combat was that dodging was far too easy and you could dodge practically any attack without much trouble. The only way to do decent damage was to block attacks and counter, and that much required more reactions than mashing dodge.
Overall it wasn't the best fighter, AI was especially annoying at points, but MP was a lot of fun. The level up system wasn't really the problem, as you could autosync to the opponent (higher to lower), the problem with that being the higher level character would have more skills and more stuff mastered. But even with levels being equal, there was always equipment to factor in. The fairest fights were done without any equipment or summons, and those were good.
I disagree with this. The entire game is built around the assumption you're going to customize your characters through equipment and summons, hence many of them like Shantotto and Kefka are plain useless without those.
It's no coincidence that most of the players would only pick Zidane, Kuja, Tidus or Exdeath in "no equipment/summons" matches, because without those you'd essentially have 3-7 good characters and the rest were all underpowered. That got boring very quickly.
I also found annoying how many players would only battle in open stages like Cosmos' Throne, because it was obvious that the "top tier" characters had the advantage.
For example Zidane could make full use of his multi-jump ability and as you said dodging is very easy in Dissidia, even moreso in an open stage.
Characters like Emperor and Terra benefit from closed stages like Kefka's Tower and Pandaemonium, but dodge spammers disliked those and would never battle in such stages.
I believe Shanttoto new alt costume Empyream Armor and Empyream Weapon maybe?
How? I mean, it's pretty clear that without equipment (some of which is very broken, hi2u Gabranth EX setups) and summons, all you're left with are skills/abilities. Equal fights meant all you had were HP attacks and Brave attacks, as well as other abilities you agreed on (like jumping boosts or whatever). How is that not a fair fight?
Just because a game can be played with equipment, doesn't mean it always will be. And no shit that some characters are better than others, that's just fighting games for you. Yeah, Shantoto, Terra, Cloud, Squall and OK suck ass, while Tidus, Kuja, Zidane and Exdeath were great. It's the same with basically every fighting game ever. It's the same when dealing with stages, some characters are better in closed spaces, while some in open, and the best are good in all areas. This also has to do with how good characters are, which is why people prefer open stages because the majority of characters they want to play as are better there.
Not to mention open stages without obstacles are far less annoying and allow you to concentrate better on the fight without splitting up your attention worrying about shit getting in the way.
Super Smash Bros is the same. Just cause you can fight with items and shit doesn't mean you have to, and the fair fights would be done with no items and on a stage that doesn't suck ass. Dissidia is the same.
Chances are if you can beat them with equipment you could prolly beat them without it except in some cases like Gabranth where you just pound on him so he can't build ex meter. If he somehow DOES get it, kite until it wears off. I don't play with summons but equipment/accessories I do since I like customizing and having different builds to try.
The difference with Smash is counter picking characters and stages which isn't as easily done in Dissidia outside of some chars whose airgame is deplorable "COMPARED" to others: Firion, non-ex Gabranth, Golbez{don't bring up Genesis Rock} and possibly Onion Knight. In this way, you pick maps where you're in the air more often which are plenty of. Cosmos's stage is the "Final Destination" and CoD's The Void stage is "Smashville" which is why they are commonly picked.
I just think it was silly to ever have people iffy in air game when you spend more of your time IN THE AIR anyway.
