Sorry for the stupid question but can someone explain this "feint" thing Tifa has?
Sorry for the stupid question but can someone explain this "feint" thing Tifa has?
When you use an HP attack, if you hit X just before it normally would land you can have her stop the attack and teleport around your opponent, you can either let it go at that or press square again to continue it. It delays the actual hit so if they try to block or dodge the move incorrectly you can punish and you can also stop yourself from getting hit by certain counters to these HP attacks.
Basically, one of the best things ever when it comes to landing an HP attack without using an assist charge.
I'll have to look into that then, the tutorial said to look at her abilities and I seen nothing.
Yeah, it's the reason why though Vaan may have initially been my favorite of the newcomers... Tifa's looking to take that top spot.
True, Tifa is pretty good although I think Vaan will be my top since this might sound funny coming form me, but the boob bouncing annoys me, and I kind of suck with my timing on her.
The boob bouncing is really silly, I'll give you that... but somehow it's not really as apparent to me in her advent children outfit (which I usually use)
Assuming I use Vaan again in the story his TA2 outfit will be the first I purchase.
In addition, Tifa can faint Brave attacks as well. Every attack except for her Ice spells is feint-able.
To see the timing, highlight the move on the customization/abilities screen and hit Square. It will bring up a description of the move and all possible feint timings.
Example: Moonsault Kick can be feinted before the first kick, before the second kick, and before the third kick. (Which as you can tell leads to some nasty aerial mind games...and considering the move leads to chase which is an easy way to land HP attacks, it's very useful to master it).
The timing seems strict but the basic rule of thumb is to input the feint as part of the attack's input. For example you can feint Beat Rush by hitting Circle, X, Circle, Circle, Circle instead of just Circle, Circle, Circle. I usually feint Moonsault Kick as Circle, Circle, X, Circle.
I didn't know you could with brave attacks, doesn't seem too useful there for most of them though since they come out pretty fast anyway... fast enough that you can just use them when you want to without consequence. Maybe if moves in dissidia were more punishable on whiff than they are.
It's mostly for spacing and if they dodge it. For example if you go for Moonsault Kick and start the first hit right out of range, they might try to Dodge it. Knowing they're going to dodge, you Feint it so that Moonsault Kick goes behind them and continue the rest of it and get the Chase follow up.
It is also useful as a Dodge tool. If you know an attack is coming your way, sometimes it's just better to Feint a brave attack than to dodge it, as it puts you either behind the opponent or completely bypasses the attack and puts you closer to your opponent. It also recovers much faster than a regular Dodge.
Yeah, but see... that's just the thing; It's already a guessing game with brave attacks, (HP attacks too, but they are usually easier to escape so feints actually give you some advantage... also they guard crush) and they don't really guard crush. You're really not gaining anything from feinting fast attacks that have a high probability of landing when used properly. You can already trick someone into guarding or dodging at the wrong time without feints. All I'm saying is they don't really give you anything you didn't already have, cept maybe spacing but since most moves in dissidia aren't very punishable on whiff, it rarely matters because you are usually going back to square one.
As far as I can tell, taking advantage of a feint with a brave attack will be more of an issue of luck than skill.
Just sayin' dissidia is the only fighter I can think of where I can completely screw up on certain moves right next to someone and still block their punish, lol. I can see those feints being good on the CPU but any real player is only going to throw out their safe moves unless they confirm and is probably going to mix-up their blocking/evading options against a Tifa so it's just as much of a toss-up for you whether you want to feint as it is for them.
Well I still find Feinting Moonsault Kick to be particularly useful for a one trick pony. Other useful ones are Feinting Falcon Dive just cause it allows you to get to the floor faster and the most important one, Water Kick, just because it has an HP link so a successful Feint on that leads you to a free HP attack.
Yeah, if you get lucky it can benefit you... no doubt. But you really can tend to get the same effect by running straight up to someone and making them think you're going to attack but just not hitting a button (and you can do that with any character in the game, no feint neccessary!) . Same risk/reward scenario most of the time.
HP attacks are usually too slow to punish a random block from someone, but brave attacks can definitely get them in that recovery time. That's why I find it more useful for those, cause you can't just easily punish an ill-timed block without the feints.
Does anyone have problem to get ad-hoc working?
i can never see my friend's card at online lobby, it worked fine on first dissidia
Little help please
I purchased my Dissidia through PSN, but because i'm a fanboy, I got the Legacy Edition from the UK as well. This comes with a code for some DLC outfit for Squall and Tifa that i'd like to use, but I can't because of the game is from the NA store, and the DLC codes are from the UK store. So, i'm wondering, if I setup a UK PSN account, can I grab the DLC, and if so, will it work with the game, once I switch back to NA style? :3
There was a thread about that on GameFAQs, someone had got the Japanese only DLC working on an NA version of the game by just renaming the folder to the correct regional one. The problem was you can't use different region DLC at the time. When he was using the Zidane cloak DLC he couldn't use his Lightning Aya costume or Cloud KH one. It might be a pain to constantly have to swap what PSN account your PSP is associated with too, but I'm not sure because I've never done so myself.
ty~ I guess I will just wait til they are available in NA DLC store one day, not that big a deal.
I played the hell out of the 1st one, but I got bored of this game a lot faster than I was expecting. I think the problem is that this was pretty much just the same game with a few new characters.
When they said they included the 1st game's story mode it sounded great. But that was before I realized they included it because 012's storymode is almost non-existent.
This :/
I was really looking forward to this game and I had an absurd playtime in the first Dissidia, so I can't believe I'm pretty much done with Duodecim already. I don't think my problem was the gameplay or the game being the same, but rather the lack of a single player mode I enjoyed. The Colisseum wasn't that great, but I found it to be pretty addicting because of all the rewards. The Labyrinth and the dungeons with level 120+ characters got old really fast, but I partially blame this on me being bad and having a harder time getting gear.
In the end, I was stuck playing by myself, and whatever the reasons were, I couldn't get into the single player mode of this game.
I still think it's great game though, especially if you can play with people. I'm sure I'll get the urge to play a few months down the road and finish getting everything, which is what happened to me with the first game.
