Was it ever specified is abyssite bonuses to the individual chest types apply to everyone if a person with them makes the kill shot, or only when the bonus is applied to them? Could possibly mean the difference between needing X ephemeral kills to cap things.
More than likely, the strenght varies per kill, with the abyssites possibly boosting it.
I've been reporting my findings in the general thread II; My theory is that the abyssites you have give you a static amount of light per kill based on which ones you have. For instance, I have two abyssites of red chest luck, and after 5-6(?) kills solo on murexes that don't give ruby light, and without opening ruby boxes, I got a chest with weak golden light in it.
And yes, I have also had the experience of Ephemeral mobs giving much more light than normal mobs. And I have definately seen the effect of light diffusing when you have more party members to cover.
Does the Emp. Murex give other light boosts also if killed correcly?
For instance ELE ws kill that produces amber light would it give more than just 1 light?
Or does it only work with azure light to kill emp. for boosted light?
Yes they give just as much amber.
I did this lastnight and it was... odd..
I killed 2 Emp. mob, and my lights were capped, I got Intense soothing light, TE, 1250, 1000 Curuor boxes, I zoned out cause I had to do some things, and I came back, killed 2 Emp. mobs, I got a blue box to spawn and it gave me 200xp.. I was .. very confused.
Ephemeral mobs cap your lights for whatever type of kill you do, in 2-3 mobs. i.e: 2-3 Magic kills on an Ephemeral mob will cap your Azure.
What kind of mob? Maybe murex/amoeba give more or less bonuses to different kinds of lights depending on species? Got capped azure last night in a group off three with 3 ameoba azure kills. Next time we go I'll try capping azures on just emp. murex and see if it matters.
Edit: I assume you actually killed them with magic and still got low rank chests?
Both times I did it, was Murex had Wind aura on.
3 times ive tried now and doesnt seem to work for me.......
Killed 3 emp. murex that gave pearlscent light (took 10 kills total...)
Killed 3 that gave amber
Killed 3 that gave azure.
I was alone most of the until the last 15 min or so i had a friend with me.
I got neither capped blu chests, neither gold chests with anything but temp items and i sure wasn't getting chests every kill or even every other kill when i went to mandy camp after the emp. murex...
Weird. All of this is happening after someone asked about that <.<

Did you check the mob?
What did it con as?
Anyone around killing them?
Ephemerals can con anywhere from EP to IT depending on how they were killed (like any Abyssea mob), and lights can be affected this way.
Also, list your chest abyssites please.
killed 5 VT murex in misreaux last night, couldnt cap my amber light. was odd
Just now i killed 2 x Emp Murex with magic in a group of 3 people and azure was capped for us all.
Took many tries with amber though, including killing normal worms with amber also before we saw big chests.
Could it be that it depends on the abyssites we've received?
EX: Abyssite for blue chests and killing 3x Murex with Azure kills = capped, where as someone w/o the Abyssite takes more kills?
People have gotten different results being the same person. I have all chest abyssites and have needed >4 ephemerals and a handful of plain mobs before.
I'm 90% sure the decreased lights people are getting from ephmerals lately is directly related to the rate at which people are killing them, and thus how fast they are repopping. (Basically that the VT/IT ones are giving less light but repopping faster)
Could be the case but it's almost impossible to prove. I really wish SE made game mechanics with less voodoo. I get people like figuring out stuff but when they add too many factors it gets frustrating to verify anything.
More so than that why SE felt the need to make feet so much more annoying to acquire in comparison to the other pieces is some what confusing. It's not like we don't have to still acquire all the seals/stones/cards for them.
