Theory is looking more like, it can pop every hour, on the hour. Random is random. It's been made to be a uncampable/bottable mob I guess. Wide pop area, random depop time, etc.

Short of DS scanning, you just have to check if its up every game hour.

I can definitely confirm that all caturae spawn at any time during the hour. The best method for camping still is leaving a mule at the pop spot, I've never seen a caturae depop in under 7minutes although I guess its possible. Yaanei is probably one of the easier ones to instantly get to as well.

Okay, I'm getting a little fed up with this quest, is there some kind of trick to finding the Dark Miasma? I've literally spent hours running back and forth through both sides of the zones and up the mountain spamming tab and I have yet to find anything... Is there something I'm missing?

Same here, I've had no luck with it either. After every maint I check the air quality and it is still highest level.

The way I did it was just flagged the quest and then one day I ran into a miasma, so I cleaned it. The trick is to not be looking for them.

A friend suggested -
Fool drink , 2hr zerk it, and hope for KI.

Any other option?
Prefer some option that goes without using 2hrs, since NMs are nowadays having 10 to 15mins re-pop.

Cap azure on a few eph mobs and you can just get a 2hr chest while waiting for Tunga repop

RDM can solo it by kiting around the rock nearby, but it will go unclaimed at points if solo.

Only did it twice, with a wipe occurring as NIN WHM, but being able to beat it as MNK RDM. From eyeballing, para2 was just owning the hell out of it during chainspell break spam.

I'm having incredible trouble with this also and i'm very close to capping abyssite so it's making me angry. What I want to know if is if the NPC (Leepe-Hoppe) says anything other than "clear weather" in the .dats and if there is a map showing where all of the possible dark miasmas are because there are so many possible ravines in attohwa that is impossible to look at every one.

I've talked to numerous people about how hard the quest is and most of the people I talk to who have completed it did it right after Scars of Abyssea came out which is very strange. Did SE make it harder or something?

The rock hopper quest clears the air, making less miasma appear. I also missed out on doing this quest as soon as it came out, and this is the only quest I have yet to do. I have never seen a dark miasma no matter how much I run around.

Got a question about Amun... For some reason my brother can't seem to claim him (90WAR) he will voke it and it will just sit there. Then the Key Item doesn't seem to drop to him. He pulled and was able to Raging Rush it before anyone else touched it and when it died the Key Item dropped to me... really irking us since he has the other half of the Sandworm pop too...

I tried doing Hazy Prospects during non-peak times (11am-1pm) and still didn't see any miasma

nevermind, just got the quest done. Found it on second ravine opening on the way up at the very beginning near the Galkan Resistance npc and did camping strategy for almost a full game day. Weather npc has nothing to do it with it because I checked after and it still said clear weather.
Tested out 9/9 lenity and only lose 240 exp when you Home Point.

Make sure it is red before anyone else touches it. Some NMs require 2 actions to claim it.

You need to preform 2 actions on him to pull. If he voked then you did something, you are the claimer.

See we have had him claim it red before we touched it and the key item went to me on that time... its just strange as hell...

They obviously fucked up. The mob is known to be bugged, just like Mictlantecuhtli in Tahrongi. The first action makes it go back to idle straight away, so you need to touch it again.

Yes, just stood there and tabbed around. POS won't help much, but it was at K-8 on the path to Yaanei (top of mountain). Second ravine you see going up. If you're at the Elvaan Resistance NPC, you've gone too far.
