There is more to it than this, as I have checked both Kuth, and Yaanei after killing their zones' iron giants to find neither of them up. My best guess is that they certainly are related, but not a force pop. Rather, they have a window in which they can pop in between the giant dying, and it repopping, in which the Caturae themselves can pop. I will test this later.
Edit: Just killed it; it was up and the iron giant was dead. However, it was not there immediately last time after killing the giant. I am sticking to my little theory.
Decided to try this tonight and it was fairly easy; reminded me of the Cactrot Rapido fight a lot.
- pulled it to the lizard area and straight "tanked" it
- slow II at *all* times, because as Julian said it's insane otherwise
- para II at all times
- goblin chocolate for lizard killer (it works! basically recycled the idea of ginger cookie for Rapido)
- I could go ichi -> ichi maybe 40% of the time
- if slow II is on and you're getting clobbered (SS is off), it's easy to cast ichi between his attack rounds
- with some PDT gear, hit for about 180-230 dmg per round, with double attack around 50%
- blizzard III would do about 3% each time
- having 1800 HP, 1200 MP and double refresh atma obviously helped
- he started being feisty/a pain in the ass at 28%, so I popped ascetic's drink, CS and finished it off by spamming blizz and doing Utsu/SS/Cures when needed
- used Delta Thrust once but no idea on damage because apparently it's absorbed by 3 shadows
- took 25 minutes
Kinda fun overall. Thanks for posting this, because I was thinking of trying the kite method, which probably would have been more awkward/longer.
Spoiler: show
Kill Ironclad Severer a little while ago. Immediately went to Conflux #7 after the kill, Kutharei was up (and it aggroed me from at least 35+ distance).
Probably some cooldown between pops on top of having the Ironclad die as well. Easy to test if you ever find yourself with surplus time and a few Blm friends to kill the giants every pop.
Anymore info on low-man Amhuluk strat? I tried this last night with MNK/nin, rdm/whm and brd. I see it being do-able but I'm a little confused on where does the mnk stand. Does mnk stand on top w/ amhuluk on the bottom, or mnk on the bottom w/ amhuluk on the top? The issue we had was it starting off with tornadoga and curing the mnk pulled hate and we weren't able to position him correctly again. Any advice?
Thanks!
He's a bitch. If you've looked for info on him, then you've probably found my other post so I won't bother searching for it. I'm going to go back and try him duo as SMN/THF + WHM/NIN (credit to Thorny for the idea of using SMN) when my SMN hits 85. Basic strat would be for the WHM/NIN to kite him and keep his shadows off (he's easy to outrun, hard to damage while you outrun because he's always casting -ga on you) except when my pet Spinning Dives the shit out of him. Should be easy to land Spinning Dive on because he stops to cast. If it goes bad, we have R3. Hardest part with that duo will be the pull because neither of us can equip Powder boots iirc, I'd have Flee and TH though. At 10MP/tick Refresh from Atma, if my pet can't tank until it dies then there's something seriously wrong with my Perp gear.
Mob on bottom with MNK at top of cliff. Build the pop set on either the RDM or the BRD. Have them pop the NM and fall off of the cliff and mob should follow. MNK engages and starts punching it in the ass and it should turn around and start swinging at the MNK from the bottom. To deal with spells have someone /DRK. /WHM isn't really necessary since everyone should have echo drops.
I know this was already theorized in the Abyssea-Tahrongi thread, but this kind of relationship (kill Iron Giant --> Caturae window opens where it could pop at 0 minute mark or interval thereafter) might explain the popping condition for Iratham, the mysterious unpopped Caturae from the last expansion. But still can't imagine why nobody has even come across him after we've all mowed through NM's in Tahrongi for 3 months. Also, people with APRadar have told me they see Kutharei/Yaanei/Sippoy's "bodies" but just unpopped, whereas nobody has found Iratham's.
Perhaps it really was the Qutrub quest ><
Problem with Iratham is due to the lack of rewards in Abyssea-Tahrongi, perhaps we're missing a zonewide trigger to spawn it or at least start the spawn cycles. The one quest that sticks out like a sore thumb was that Gunpowder Swathe quest and I can bet for sure that has only been done by a handful of people across all servers.
The only other indication from SE was perhaps it has something to do with using Primeval Brew inside Abyssea-Tahrongi but that's something I wont be able to test for a long time. Really, the only thing that hasn't been beaten to death already is that Gunpowder Swathe nonsense.
Saw Kutharei up on wide scan last night, it had just turned to firesday. Didn't check if Iron Giant was up, but its dead 99% of the time anyways. I know a group went to go kill it shortly after it popped.
@T2 VNM, MNK, RDM, WHM killed it pretty easily with some pretty heavy/fast healing. MNK needs HP atma as hexidiscs could easily do 2k~ damage with 0 shadows up.
I dunno if it's the same everywhere but when I was doing Bhumi a week or so ago, adze, mic, chukwa, cuel, manan, minho were all literally *ALWAYS* up, and nobody touched quetz when he was up, either. If it's related to nm's at all, it's quite obvious why he's not popping.
i kinda think its related to quests.. theres 1 quest that requires 50 of those ridiculous qutrub items.. that most people would not have completed..
i think the rate at which NMs appeared so quickly in the new areas was due to people spamming quests for seals..
also on my server Bhumi is even up anymore >_>;
3 rdms had no problem doing t2 VNM ghrah, even with -magic dmg taken on the ghrah, just have to share hate enough so no one rdm is tanking it longer then ichi -> ni or it becomes annoying to deal with. It does hit pretty hard otherwise, and -ga 4 is annoying but in a duo or trio not really a huge threat.
Anyone has solid pin point to solo Gukumatz ? I tried pinning it @the trees up where lizards spawn & it wouldn't work consistently , no enough time to land spells usually as it DA pretty much , even with Slow on I couldn't keep ichi => ichi .
Been looking for pinning spots in Mis for my guide on my LJ but damn it's hard. SE took out some of the potential triggers (barrels/some towers) so there's considerably less pinning spots than in the real world zone (and even then there are few).
@holyman: for gukumatz find a RDM friend and new worlds will open for you. Makes it so much easier if you go RDM/NIN x2 , bring mp temp items and a fanatic drink is always nice. Bounce hate between each other and always use sab & slow together, can pretty much straight tank it then while other one nukes. As its HP gets lower enfeebs wont last as long, pop fanatic and CS nuke it. You can ofc take it down slow way without using CS but it certainly makes it faster
