I still don't see how Kindred Crests and CoP Missions are comparable in any fashion
I have no idea why people are complaining about this quest, it may be slightly time consuming but it's by not means hard, I personally did mine as PLD80/WAR in Glacier [S] and I seen a BRD soloing Djinn for his crests, as far as I am aware BRD is pretty much the worst solo job in the game, so really there's no excuse for not soloing unless you have like no time spare.
If you take it in light of the previous Genkai, this one isn't even requiring solo. Take a person at level 75 who just finished G6 and is getting ready for G7. By the time they abyssea party to 85 they should already easily have 5 crests anyways.
Crests were on the same drop timer as both kinds of seals. Alternating killshots to open up dropshots = loot. In the time I got 15 crests, I also got 14 kindreds and 17 beastmens.. don't see how that's notably lucky, given they're approximately the same droprate. In fact, since I got less than 1/3 crests(marginally), it's on the unlucky side. The people complaining either don't understand how seals worked, or were too stupid to apply it. Yes, I'm sure some were legitimately unlucky, but if you're killing solo and averaging 8 minutes per drop you're looking at 24 per crest, or 2 hours. If you rageafk to whine about how terrible SE is for making you do something to rank up, that's time spent not getting crests. If you waste time competing at valley of sorrows or kuftal or other places with 30 people, that's your own fucking fault. There are thousands of mobs that drop crests..
I'm not saying it was a fabulously designed limit break or that it's real content or anything more than another timesink. I'm saying it's nowhere near as bad as people want to make it out to be.. it's like the idiot who complained about being 0/55 on a 25 piece, or the other one who claimed 0/52 on homam legs. Shit's just not true, people lie to get sympathy or outdo others.. I severely doubt half of the people whining about it had a rate of less than 1:3 crest:seal.
ITT: Bitching about low drop rates on an MMO, bravo everyone.
For those of you suggesting that Kindred Seals (and Beastmen's Seals or Kindred Crests) are on some kind of five minute drop timer, can you explain this to me?

That being said, the last two crests I got were back-to-back on Korrigans that took like a minute to solo on MNK. There's no timer, its just luck.
You have multiple parties.
Different people getting kill shots.
I don't know how the patch changed rate, but it's been said at least 6 times that in an alliance each party's killshots count individually. That's how I managed to get mine in such a short period of time, each of my characters was a party leader in the same alliance. I played with this mechanic to farm ~15-18 seals per hour with mules for a while, vs the 9-12 I was getting with the same mules partied instead of allianced. I have an absurd sample size both before and after if anyone cares that much..
Kindred Seals had a better drop rate than crests because previously kindreds only shared a timer with beastmen seals meaning that even if you killed nothing but EPs you had a 50% chance of getting a KS or BS.
Crests had a lower rate than BS/KS and shared the same timer meaning if you were solo and got a KC or BS you were screwed for 5mins. It wasn't bad but it was pointless to have these items share drops with Beastmen/Kindred seals.
G6 was not hard, give me a break. If you didn't have Kindred Seals lying around, you're either lying or do battlefields more often than most. The merit points were the bigger sticking point.
Honestly, I didnt even care much about pre-patch KC but just simply the idea that the rate was "fair" on an item only currently useful for doing a genkai and finishing an empyreal-1 is an example of how being punched in the face by SE enough times has people rationalizing bad design.
Currently sitting on like 30 crests waiting to finish an empyreal-1 ._. Thanks SE for patching it after the fact :D
we don't really have that problem on phoenix, the leechs aren't going to get the same exp as your BRD/COR'd DD, so the top 5 boxes will go to your LS. and just have your 20-30 ppl lot on everything which drops and pass to leader.
Never had a single random show up during our runs.. not sure I'd call the armor drops awesome but 10manning results in a 300-400k payout for 30 minutes + minimal travel time. If you do multiple runs, that much better. (Did this get mixed up or did I miss the derail?)
We tend to get a particularly stupid brand of leech, this is Asura after all. It's not so bad at the start, it's multiple runs (which we always do) where they start adding up over time.
Not all of them are full on leech/terrible, some are smart enough not to fuck the run and only there for coins. Although that brings on it's own annoyances for members who are upgrading weapons.
Sorry about the derail, Urat mentioned WoE in his rants a page back, not sure why I felt compelled to respond.
this thread didn't upset
urat, you're a tard for the ages.
I've seen back to back seals drop before though while solo.... yeah I'm calling this 5 minute theory "bunk", at least going on my own experiences.
I have ~650 hours per char logged of seal farming on lesser colibri. Due to (minor) exp, the bots were not stopped after seal drops. While I don't care enough to read through ~1300 hours of logs, the 24 hours worth I did search for seal drops in had no instance of a character obtaining 2 seals in a 5 minute period. Some quick math puts the seal rate at approximately 30-40% if you ignore the first 5 min after a seal drop, and about 10-12% if you don't. Now, if you assume 10-12% droprate, in 24 hours I killed 1100 colibri. About 700 of those were before 5 minute mark, remind me the chances of going 0/700 on a 10% drop again please?
This shit was known in 2005, you're retarded. Go back to NIN nuking.
If you wanted to make a proper case, you'd argue against crests being on the same timer, but my experience as well as others leads me to believe they were. It's hard to say for sure now that it's patched.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the storylines and the challenges of some of the earlier Limit Breaks as much as I think most people did.
What I'm trying to get at is that the current limit break isn't really anymore time consuming than some of the previous ones. My personal experience was that it was faster to do this one than some of the others. Yes it's a bit of a grind if the crests don't drop regularly, and yes not everyone likes having to grind to get them, but then previous limit breaks often relied on other people helping you out whereas this one can be solo'd easily enough on pretty much any job.
No-one complained about how easy the last limit break was....a few KS and a few merit points. Pretty much everyone already had the KS required, and it took next to no time for most people to get the merit points if they didn't already have them. If anything we all laughed at how easy it was. All that's changed this time round is that it's a new item we have to farm and an extra limit point and all of a sudden people are screaming about how unfair it is....
I think it's a pretty decent limit break personally but as with all things of this nature you can't please everyone.
That's probably the best part about all the whining- we did the exact same thing last limit break. The only reason nobody bitched about that is because we already had the seals.
