    When WTB'ing with retainer, unexpected result

    [edit: Edited thread title to reflect that this isn't just a retainer question/discussion. It refers to both the person bazaar as well as the retainer bazaar.]

    When I'm attempting to use the "Seeking for purchase" feature of the retainer (ie, "I want to buy your fire shards for 50gil each"), I'm running into unexpected issues.

    1) I can only ask for items I already have in my inventory. I know this has been confirmed by others. Just an observation.

    2) Am I limited to the number of items I currently have on hand? IE, if I only have 4 fire shards, I can only seek 4 fire shards? For example, if I need dozens of fire shards, does the game require that I have dozens already in my inventory?

    3) Are sellers then only able to sell me exactly the quantity I asked and no less? For example, if I want 200 earth shards and a potential customer has 190 earth shards, they can't sell em to me?

    4) Am I limited to only 4 offerings in the bazaar? For example, if I want to offer to purchase a stack of each shard type (there are 6), I cannot?

    Basically, I can't say I want up to 200 shards and let customers fill that request one shard at a time. If I wanted to do it one at a time, I would need to make four separate offerings and only be able to get four total.

    Very frustrating experience with trying to buy things as is, but selling seems even more idiotic.

    That was very helpful post. Though, this does not deserve its own thread.


    I'm pretty sure when you are "Seeking" something, you have to have at least one of that item on you, then you can seek however many you want for whatever price.

    Yeah, I would prefer to avoid general venting. There's plenty of that about the ui. I also assume, given current understanding of limitations, that I need to have the item in my inventory.

    I tried this on my own character (not retainer) as well. I had 24 Wind Shards and wanted to offer to purchase 5. The UI prevented me from offering more money than I had (expected), but what was unexpected was that my inventory of Wind Shards also decreased by 5!

    Therefore, I could not offer to purchase 25 Wind Shards, no matter how much gil I was carrying!

    What I'm after is a confirmation that I'm not just retarded and missed the bus on this. Also I'd like to discuss a reasonable alternative to offer back to Square as a proposed answer.

    A Retainer should stay on, even if you log out. I hate having to run back over there just to pop her back up every time I log.

    Wait, what? I thought the entire point of the retainers is that you could sell stuff when you're offline.

    I don't know where this comment came from. Perhaps I miswrote something. I'm under no illusion/disillusion about the presence of the retainer. They stay online and available as expected.

    I believe this is what we are confused about. This negates the purpose of the Retainer, if I recall correctly.

    I'm sure someone is confused here, but maybe it is SE.

    There is no way when you are BUYING items with the retainer that the retainer holds your items.
    Of course when you are SELLING items, the retainer takes them from you.

    One of the many things that should (will?) be fixed before official release because it's just so damn obvious it's not working according to their plans.

    Um...if you set your retainer to sell, he will always be at the wards you set him up at, even when you're offline. If you are only using retainer as a mobile mog house, then yes, you will need to summon him each time you want to access his storage.

    Clearly, you didn't understand the purpose or the function of the system.

    That is my experience as well. The game removes the amount of shards you are seeking from the "usable" item count.

    I have not tried the WTB thing and I am not defending SE on limiting the list of what you can advertise what you want but it does make sense to me to not just have a list of every possible item because I'm sure there are quite a few items that nobody has found/crafted and they don't want us to know about them just yet. (I don't know anything about Dat mining so maybe it is possible people could find every item already in the game) The whole, you have to have one to buy one thing is just ridiculous but some sort of system should be in place that allows you to seek for purchase items you don't have but maybe know about and seek for purchase more than the number you currently have. It also should not tie up the item you have.
