Or you can just get Win7 Pro x64 for free from MSDNAA? Other things to consider, open office != MS Office, and quite frankly, most of the open source stuff is much more of a pain in the ass over time than MS's software.

When I looked up MSDNAA a couple years back when I was in college, I was under the impression that you had to have a course relevant enough to actually *need* the upgrade, rather than just being cheap and getting a copy for a lot less than retail.

My school gives a 1 free copy of office to every student. :D Got win7ultimate for 15 dollars, and then got 2 copies of win7pro for free through MSDNAA. Also got a bunch of other free shit through my school like Visual Studio 08/10 and etc. <3 free stuff!
