Does atonement count as ruby or azure on killshot? Guessing ruby but just making sure.

So.

A melee hit definitely didn't kill it. No one was opening any chests or killing any other mobs.
You missed that he typed azure instead of amber.
Oops, yea, meant amber instead of azure.
we had the same thing earlier farming TE's for an NM run and the drg kills our Bugard mob with a normal polearm swing, we got azure light asked him if he had element on pole or dancers steps (never know) he said no was skyscraper and no en-spells or samba's on him, random shiz is random :/
but in your case maybe he DA's during ws and it gets counted as a second act off of the ws
I've had this happen while farming gold boxes in a 6-man run, but I too am uncertain of why this happens.
It's not that uncommon for a killshot to give light for the action before the killshot itself. Seen it plenty of times, azure off of MNK kills etc.
I was running past an NPC in La Thiene, specifically the non-targetable one fighting a fly on the ramp by Conflux #4. I got pearlescent light.
From our testing, the Scars Zone's Ephemeral's give super lights of any variety, but in Vision Zones, they seemed to RESET our lights back to zero. Or at least one of the types that live in La'Thein reset them, because we were used to going in an trio'n our lights to max on them, but we got a rude awakening in La'Thein. So not 100% tested, but sure the hell seems to be true.
This seems possible. If you've ever played a healer job for extended periods of time, you'll notice some instances when you'll throw a cure at someone who's dying only to have the spell land AFTER they've hit 0HP (but before their name turns grey). It stands to reason this is possible on monsters too, but the only time we ever noticed it was when Abyssea came out and lights told you what kind of kill you just made.
Not in a party, and hadn't been in a party all day. I hadn't killed anything that visit, as I was still fishing for fame. It really seemed like that npc earned that light, though there was no death animation for the fly.
I wouldn't be surprised if in some rare cases you get the 'action-before' light since many checks in the game follow a nice set rhythm (checks every 1 second? no idea) except player actions. I needn't mention cases where you physically kill the monster and then it kills you before it dies (due to the checks occurring at the same time)
