5 regions initially, so let's say ~40 "zones" for the beginning of vanilla. 5 more zones will be in the .dats, which are released later on, however before the first expansion. If every unreleased region has let's say 5-6 "zones", vanilla XIV has around 60~ "zones" total before the first expansion is released.

The size is pretty good imo, but the content is more important. I'm sure within a year and half the game will be quite fleshed out. Everyone can determine when it'd be worthwhile to start playing. Start of vanilla will be quite barren, I guess.
From what I've seen, Mor Dhona and Coerthas don't have any dungeons and Mor Dhona is about half the size of the other regions. Unless they do have dungeons and they're just not in the game yet. Of course Coerthas has Ishgard, which is probably a multi level city like Jeuno.

But yeah there's five more regions on the world map and that's excluding the Garlean Empire section. The world is certainly a good size, although I think more dungeons would have been a good idea. Was there an outdoor zone in XI that didn't have one? When you say a XIV region is 4-5 XI zones and it only has two dungeons it feels a bit lacking. Plus the cities had dungeons inside them in XI (except Windurst?).

Anyone else get a problem where they cant trade gear? Every time I lvl out of something and upgrade I try to pass my old stuff onto friends who need something for that slot, or who are just starting and every time I try its saying "Unable to trade the **** to XXXX" on completely normal tradeable, non-unique items. I'm basically stuck selling heaps of decent shit to NPCs cuz its filling my inventory lol ><

BSODs are usually problems on your end.

I am gonna give you a dumb and unresearched response because I am a tard: Are the items you try to trade fully repaired? I think I read somewhere that they had to be....

Probably instanced dungeons to be used later.

The Empire is obvious expansion material, nothing to do with vanilla is my good guess.

But I dunno, 2 dungeons sounds fine to me. Like, Gustaberg had Palborough & Zeruhn mines and Korroloka tunnel (which was added in RoTZ iirc?). Sounds like a fairly decent size to me, but of course it's a bit hard to compare.

Windurst had dungeons as well, toraimarai canal. The problem with XIV's maps is that they're so bland, beautiful, but bland, kinda like air head blondes. (yes, i went there.) Too much copy and paste terrain, and Coerthas is huge but nothing much is going on there, although I'm sure by release they will do something about that particular zone.

Only 2 dungeons? I'm pretty sure I've been through more than two. Although I usually die to random aggro and random aoe attacks before I can get very far.

Yea I'm kinda disappointed with the copy and paste. Looks great, but you can tell you're kinda just running the same area over and over. To be honest, the world seems kinda small to me, even compared to XI. I know it's hard to compare them but... let's say you're lv 11 and you want to go xp. If you're at bastok, you need to run to highlands. You have to cover S gusta > North gusta > highlands. And then you had to run half the zone to near the crag where there were decent mobs to kill. Hell if you wanted to party at rank 11 you needed to run to dunes so you had to cover the rest of the highlands zone. Granted I'll give you N/S gusta were pretty much the same redundant thing, but the highlands were a cool change, and the dunes for sure were a really different zone.

Compare this to XIV... rank 1 at LL, I'll go kill some rats... then at rank 3 I'll go kill some sheep... at rank 8 I'll go kill some puks... at rank 11 I'll go kill some fireflies. All in the same zone within 10 minutes of each other. I know, I'm crazy for complaining that we don't have to run far to xp, but I was hoping to see some more diversity. Gridania really isn't all what I thought it would be. Too many corridors, I wanted a more open forest. Uldah is pretty and has awesome music, but it seems like you nee to spend some time finding mob camps. I haven't explored the other two zones yet, but I'm just saying that vanilla XI seemed to have more content(zone diversity wise) than this. However, this is just launch and I'm sure we'll see a lot more to come with expansions. For now we can waste our time trying to look through retainers without a search function!

    Don't forget Dangruf Wadi.

But Thanalan for example is probably the size of the whole Bastok route to Jeuno, and you've got about six dungeons on that route just counting vanilla ones. (No Korroloka or CoP). San d'Oria has five before you even get to La Theine. Then I can think of three more on the way to Jeuno. I guess we shouldn't compare until release. I've seen maps of zones like Turtleback Island and no one seems to have a clue how to get to them.

I'm just refering to non RoZ zones. I could be mixed up, maybe I am.

    Bastok to Jeuno zones
S gusta, Dangruf, N gusta, Pal mines, highlands, Another mines zone, Dunes, Marshlands, beaudeux, rollanberry, crawlers nest.

I always though these zones were non RoZ. Am I totally wrong? If so, sorry, I played at NA release but it was a loooooong time ago.

I think Beadeaux came later. Not sure about Dangruf. Also the Windurst side to Jeuno.

Maybe a bit more diverse but nothing massive imo.

On that basis, I think FFXIV is bigger off the bat.

Interesting, but that list has got to be incomplete, otherwise how did Windurst players get to the other cities? There's no mention of Valkurm or Buburimu.

Yea sounds about right, aside from the mention of bubu and dunes, though that might have been before the ferry came? There's a lot of potential to expand at least, and I'm excited about that. I assume we'll get some new areas too for the beastmen.

It also doesn't mention Jeuno or Qufim, so I'm not sure how King Behemoth would have been in the game.
