I think to your PC
I think that might be the main problem with the menus in general, really... someone gave them the design imperative of "Make it like FFXI... but not!" so you get a lot things that are different but not efficient. I hope they trim a lot of the fat out, it takes way too many clicks to do simple things right now.
Think they are in this rep :
C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\user\00000000
I got files :
00000000.cmb
00000001.cmb
00000003.cmb
whoses may correspond to each slot.
Just as a wtf moment, just unplugged all the cords going to my mobo and plugged them in again, took my rams off and put them in again.. started comp and now the shit works again.. > > Also tested the PSU with a real PSU test meter and it works perfectly.
Now this is not necessarily a good thing, as I'm already shitting my pants, waiting for the freeze to happen again.. because I just can't believe that doing those things fixed a problem that seemed so big..
Hoping there's a "this is how the User Interface was made!" video in the making of-DVD.
I'm in no way, shape, or form a computechnosmartologist, but my guy is, and he was saying when you are running debuggy stuff (as you would have to in a beta), you'll have a system in place that checks for bad code / imput before it runs the thinger. That system takes up a lot of resources, which is why there is so much ridiculous lag in menus, selling to NPCs, crafting, etc. Once those checks are taken out, shit will go faster. I'm sure someone could fill in the blanks of the above with smart words, but that's how I understand it.
Any GLA here level 20ish that are having the same problems as me getting skill ups? I have basically hit a wall ever since hitting level 20. Even in leves my skill ups suck ass. My friend was level 20 CON when I was 19, we do all our leves together and I have even went to skill up solo a few times, he is now level 25 and I'm only 1/4 into level 22. I hope they change the skill ups being based mostly on dmg, it is getting rather slow for me.
That's not what I mean at all, I mean auto-sort as in it places everything of the same type at the same place. Like in FFXI where it places all usable items at the top, then weapons, then head etc. As it is now, if I want to synth something, I might have some of the ingredients at the top of the screen, some half-way down, some at the bottom, and some spread out among my other items, and its just a pain finding them. It would be much easier if, when you auto-sorted it would place every item of the same category close together. Another example is when I want to switch classes, I might have my Pugilist Weapon in the middle among with a lot of various crafting ingredients half-way down the screen.
A good compromise where I could live without an auto-sort function would be if they - as suggested a few posts earlier - gave us tabs. Place all armor in one tab and craft ingredients in another tab, would make it a lot easier to find things then.
No, it makes perfect sense when you think about it. It is exactly how your guy stated it. In the simplest possible terms for computer programming/debugging without getting into all the technical jargon, think of it like this:
-You have a program, say FFXIV, that is comprised of processes.
-You have a bunch of test cases (things that test basic functions) for those processes.
- Every time you execute any given process, you are not only performing the basic process (Say, Selling an Item) you are also executing the error check as well.
Now let's say that you've tested a process thoroughly and are looking to optimize your run time. Well since you know for all test case scenarios that your process (Selling an Item) won't crash/bug out, you can cut out that code. (Edit: Okay there's some error check you don't want to cut for obvious reasons but again, this is the simple version. Just covering my ass)
Long and short, you're running (give or take) twice as much stuff in the Beta for error checking purposes. Once the retail comes out, a lot of those checks are removed, which means you only have the main processes, in this case FFXIV.
At least, that's the dumbed down easy way to look at it.
Stop shitting up the thread with SE bitterness.
I understand what you are saying, and that may be the case. However, no matter how much faster you are going to go through these menus due to the reduced lag, you still have to go through them.
If you look at XI, you have a list of items that shows the stats and quantity, as well as the price you can sell it for. In XIV, you first get a list of items, next you select an item to see the stats, then you decide you want to sell it, then you select how many of it you want to sell, then you see the price of the item, then you confirm you want to sell the item.
Why create so many pointless steps to the system? It takes more work for them, as well as for us, and in the end it just builds up frustration in the players. I can see them wanting to make the menus very clear, but they're not. The whole thing is extremely cluttered, and hard to read / navigate.
I'm just curious as I have seen you post this like 15 times, what makes you think you will be able to jump on chairs??.....Jumping on chairs
I think we should all stop complaining, see what they have in place for the retail version next week and then suggest changes to that. It's clear they aren't adding any changes to the beta other than simple item tests. This open beta build goes back to GamesCom in August, probably before then.
Apologies if this has been brought up before, I don't remember seeing it in this thread or its previous incarnations.
I noticed on FFXIV Archives that shields are listed with (hidden) M.Potency and M.Acc on them. I tried buying a shield to check myself but couldn't find any after sifting through mountains of crap in the market ward, so I was wondering if anyone is able to confirm whether or not shields do increase those stats when they're equipped.
We won't have anything to talk about for a <week then!
Here is some screen shots with and without Bronze Hoplon equipped. http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/bronze-hoplon?id=4100701
