Well a server has 2 chocobo things at around 400 players... and i think it has 3 chocobo at 500...? and then you get a login que.
With all the servers they have excluding the 2 that is giving out free CE items, you got a max of 8500 if each server reached its limit of estimated 500, so expect some que time logging in~!
The npcs round the docks keeps saying they are closed so does that mean i need to do more quests in limsa or is it just a long wait for the ferry to get to thanalan??
edit: nvm it just showed up lol, i need patience i guess..
I'm sure they'll increase that by 10x for launch. Originally they said they wanted around 5000 active players per server. Of course you've got the three regions to spread load so they'll allow over 10000 to join each.
yeah that boats about as much wait time as ffxi... nearing 15min i think it was if you just missed it >.>
and you can't technically auto run onto it either ;/
hope the servers can handle it, the server already starts to lag kind of hard around the 500-600 range
although I guess they won't be "monitoring" as hard in retail causing the system to use alot resources as it used to in beta.
Few things, any word on when there going to fix the massive performance issue on shadows because it looks like my character has a black strobe light on him sometimes. Also the amount of DC's during leves or in Gridinia in general? Also noticing weird input lag to the point it seems like your lost in space for 30seconds while the mob gains +1000 evasion and you can't attack, this is all with green lag so I'm not sure what to attribute it to besides server resolution issues. Another weird issue is killing a mob and having it stand there for 15seconds with 0 hp and shake till the game realizes it's dead. A note for people having trouble with leves, it's still the same you can pull and separate large groups of mobs so try to play tactically. Also with zero points in vitality in Gridinia at level 7 or 9 you can survive the assload of poorly placed wolves during leve quest if you simply wait for them to form a sideways U shape. You can easily run through them and only aggro 2 maybe three. When you aggro them keep running straight into the narrow valley ahead and they will lose interest by the time you nearly reach the next wolf pack in the valley ahead.
The server limits in place now are likely to be raised considerably, if not lifted entirely, come retail launch. I seem to recall seeing somewhere that they were to be raised over time during OB.
also, after not playing OB for about 5 days and coming back today.. ive really noticed a big change in the lag between menu commands and such. Much more streamlined now it seems, and not very laggy at all. Still alot of lag selling stuff though lol.
I foresee Japanese players flooding servers like Wutai and Figaro to their limits and NA/EU LSs that planned to go there having a horrible time when they eventually get the game installed. lol. I hope SE has considered that or you could end up with some servers being 90%+ JP.
?
As soon as you enter the docks area (pass through the ticket gate) you're name is put on a list and you're automatically boarded onto the boat as it departs. You can go afk and you'll be pushed onto and off of (after arriving) the boat. Your name is taken off the passenger list if you exit the docks, teleport, or return.
It seems my 10% surplus has already worn off after just 12 hours of not exping with that im pretty much ok with the fatigue system.
You actually have to get to the dock area where the terrain changes, not just through the gate. The other night on my way back to Limsa Lominsa I was about 3 steps away from the wooden dock as it started to pull away and was left behind. However you are correct in that you do not have to board the ferry itself, in fact you are not able to. Also, your name is removed from passenger list if you log out.
It's kinda' odd, but I noticed if you're fishing on the Ferry and it reaches its destination, you will not be automatically zoned until you put your rod away (probably similar for getting on the boat too).
I was fishing on the way to Limsa Lominsa and we approached the city and when normally you would zone into the Ferry Docks, the boat stopped moving any closer to town. All the people that were on the ferry disappeared and a new bunch of people appeared on deck. I was a little confused but kept fishing a few times. As you know, when you zone onto the ferry, it's already out at sea with wherever you came from not even on the horizon. All these people started running around the boat like it was their first time on it. But, the boat was still sitting near Limsa Lominsa for me, not moving closer or away from town. I put the rod away and got immediately spit out into Limsa Lominsa. I guess you could essentially ride the ferry infinitely if you keep your fishing rod out, watching people get on and off while it just sits in one place for you. Kinda' odd, the way that zone works.
Is it not possible to take the path up to the black shroud from LL? I haven't tried it personally but I was pretty sure you could get there or atleast it seemed like you could by looking at the map.
Is there a reason you believe Wutai is going to be flooded with JP players? Still trying to figure out where my friends and I should end up. Are most BG people going to a particular server?
Couple people have been posting the server trends, might have been a few pages ago. I think it wasOriginally Posted by avelle

Wish they would make regional servers then just add mixed ones, that might prompt them to buy some servers in those regional locations vs what they did in XI. This would cut down on lag big time.
That'd be nice wouldn't it? I suggested that in one of these threads and I got a fairly negative response iirc.
