What's the correct way to read co-ordinates on the maps in this game? I always thought it was X,Y (top then left). But I see a lot of sites doing Y,X.

(latitude°, longitude°) should be the standard. Whoever is writing (Y,X) should be shot.

X, Y is the correct way. Everyone doing it the other way are morons and have not studied basic math.

-Option 2: Play in windowed mode at fullscreen res.

Get rid of the border in windowed mode
Pick a windowed resolution that is the same as your monitor resolution. To lose the border at the top download 'Autohotkey' and add this to a new script:
    Code:
    ^+a::
WinSet, Style, -0xC00000,a ; remove the titlebar and border(s)
    WinMove, a, , 0, 0, 1440, 900 ; move the window to 0,0 and resize it to 1440x900
    return
Change 1440, 900 to whatever your screen resolution is. Save the file. Once FFXIV is opened, Run Autohotkey, select the game window with your mouse and click 'Ctrl+shift+a' to lose the border at top.

So am I right that X is along the top? On a graph it would be from left to right.

Looks like a lot of co-ordinates on major fan sites are the wrong way around then.

Yeah, I was beginning to doubt that I had it right with all the wrong ones floating around the net.

I saw a galka in some cool looking armour, but the server went down before I could /check him.

Hey, in geography, you ALWAYS read N 1st, therefor if it's on a X,Y plot, you read Y first. But yes, the order is X,Y,Z but the matter of what you are doing is going to tell you how to read it, yes for plotting points on a map you read X then Y, but in geography when doing lat. long., you go north, south (up and down, Y) first.

P.S. Does anyone know when we can register our PROMO codes for FFXIII yet? Mine gives me an invalid code (and for my friend as well). I'm guessing we have to wait til after the SE account page maintenance to be able to register anything/buy Crysta.

I requested in beta forums to make one of them letters (instead of both numbers) like ffxi because so many people are idiots. >< Nothing like running to meet somebody and find yourself all the way across the map. /sigh

I never got round to checking out the Gridania opening cutscene. Looks like I'll have to start there. Or watch a rip on Youtube or wherever. I'm torn between Gridania and Limsa Lominsa right now. I need goodies from both starting areas.

I guess this is what is confusing people. They really should have used letters for one of them.

The Open Beta Test Comes to a Close with a note from the Director

First of all, I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the Open Beta Test!

From the beginning of the Alpha Test to the end of the Open Beta, our team has worked tirelessly to implement tester feedback. We've spent every possible moment making adjustments and addressing issues to ensure an enjoyable playing experience. With our focus so heavily on this task, however, our responses and comments to our beta testers were too few and far between.

While that's something we need to work on, I always see a lot of staff members reading the Beta Test Site as I walk around the development area. Our team is eager to answer the wishes of our players, and we believe that concentrating on the official release of the game is the most important step in that direction.

Aside from comments from me as the director, we are currently discussing with the operations team the best ways to respond to your requests and concerns during official service.

From this point forward, we hope to communicate with you not as testers of the game, but as players.

We will also be paying close attention to comments from communities beyond the Beta Test Site, and responding with either a comment of our own or with actual changes in the game as the situation demands.

The official release of FINAL FANTASY XIV and the world of Eorzea await you.

I look forward to meeting you there as a fellow player!

    FINAL FANTASY XIV Director

Gridania was interesting. You see a lot of Moogles and the mood seemed a little light hearted with at least 2 of the NPCs involved.

Also, you get to see the horned NPC race. The name eludes me at the moment. The core storyline seemed treehugging orientated. Lots of love/respect to the forest, you are an outsider, blah you sinned and stink of sin against the forest, clean your sin blah blah, oh look floating Moogles. ^^

I'm guessing some people made it to level 30. Was anyone able to defeat any mobs in Coerthas or Mor Dhona?

    Gridania spoilers:
    Spoiler: show

Well, it's somewhat focused on the fact that Gridania is the closest city-state to the Garlean's alleged war-march south/west from their homeland, through the recently(?) destroyed Ala Migha, and Gridania is next on the list. The two mystery NPCs that fell out of the crashing airship, Yda and Papalymo, are rumored to be spies from the Empire by the locals but trusted by Gridania's local sages, which appear as youths with horns. They are apparently a race more attuned with the elementals that are believed to control everything in the Twelvewood (The Black Shroud). That part gets put on hold while the rest of the story revolves around how your actions in the woods have unwittingly awoken "greenwrath" against you (and Yda/Papalymo) which must be cleansed via a ceremony where the "woodsin" is syphoned from a person and placed into a wooden mask. If this is not done, you will eventually be taken by the woods and transformed into a mindless creature. In preparations of the ceremony, you find out some kid's brother and a girl's parents were taken by the woods when the ceremony should have cleansed them and the mask which was used now remains broken. The kids try to beg the Moogles to fix it, but they say it isn't broken. The local patrol are then attacked by figures which the stupid kid assumes are his brother and such trying to get back to him and his female friend. It ends with the question of whether someone who is taken by the woods and transformed into whatever seedkin-ish creatures can ever be returned to normal. The annoying brat goes on a rebellious rampage because he doesn't believe there's such thing as elementals and blah blah blah he wants to get his family back, etc.

    A more official spoiler:
    Spoiler: show

You learn you have accrued what the forestborn call woodsin; a result of angering the wood's elementals. You must be cleansed of the woodsin's taint before you may safely reenter the forest.

You must visit the Botanists to begin your preparations for your participation in the purification rites, which will serve to cleanse you of your woodsin.

The purification rites are to be held at a great Gridanian festival. To perform your part, you must learn the ritualized dances used to honor the forest's elementals.

You have been asked by the younglings of Gridania to escort them to a place within the Black Shroud.

Upon arriving at Lifemend Stump with Powle and Sansa, they promptly run off to see whatever it is they came to do. While alone, you encounter a mysterious conjurer, who admonishes you for coming here and bringing the children with you.

While searching for Powle and Sansa, you happen upon a Moogle. After overcoming its initial astonishment at your ability to understand Mooglespeak, it conveys to you a message for a young girl named Fye concerning a purification mask which is not actually broken and therefor cannot be fixed.

You locate Powle and Sansa who angered the mysterious conjurer for wandering about the forest and bring them back to Gridania.

You find out by the local Polearm-wielding military, the Wood Wailers, that the magical barrier surrounding and protecting the forest is known as the Hedge. The Hedge has been recently brought down and the Wood Wailers are currently hunting down the culprits.

While speaking to a commanding officer, several lancers suffering serious wounds are suddenly carried into the guild. Most cannot say what attacked them, though they speak of some sort of shadow in the forest.

One of the wounded Wood Wailers claims to have seen a man named Dunstan in the woods, which appeared as a wildling. They begin a hunt to find Dunstan.

Nuala of the Wood Wailers reveals that wildlings are those souls whose sins within the wood are so great that the greenwrath of the elementals claim them; damning them to wander the forest for all time.

Gridanian culture holds a special place for those whom the elementals of the forest entrust a task, oft calling them the beckoned. A young boy named Khrimm refuses to believe such nonsense. Papalymo and Yda hope to find him and speak to him at the Oak Atrium where you must also visit the Carpenter's Guild to see about the crafting of a mask you are to wear at the purification rites.

Zezekuta of the carpenters shows you the mask you are to wear in the purification rite and explained that the woodsin which clings to a soul is transferred to the mask by the power and magic of the dances. He warned of the danger of a mask breaking should the woodsin be too great for it to bear. Young Fye is also searching for Khrimm and you must also deliver your message to her from the Moogle.

You find Khrimm and Fye speaking to each other and overhear talk of Fye's eldest brother Dunstan and his tragic fate of being turned into a wildling. Fye claims she is making a new mask for her brother, refusing to give up hope of cleansing him of his woodsin. Khrimm claims to no longer believe in the existance of the elementals and he leaves.

Fye is shocked to hear from you that the Moogle claims the mask is not broken, having thought it to be the sole reason her brother and Khrimm's parents were turned into wildlings. She asks you to speak to the Moogles again if you can and ask if there's any hope in freeing the soul of a wildling from the forest's clutches.

You find Papalymo and Yda speaking with Zezekuta and learn that Dunstan and Khrimm's parents both stirred the greenwrath of the elementals in the course of battlings with the Garleans. Zezekuta has your mask prepared and assures you that your cleansing should post no problems.

Brother E-Sumi-Yan of the conjurers has returned to town to oversee the purification rites, he is to see all who are taking part in the rites.

Brother E-Sumi-Yan seems concerned over young Fye. To aid in her wish to find a way to save a wildling, he teaches you where in the forest you may find Pearl Clover Fruits, a known favorite of the Moogles, and best your chance of attracting one near enough to speak to it.

You locate the Pearl Clover Fruits and attract the attention of a Moogle. In return for the delectable, the Moogles agrees to ask the elementals themselves if a wildling soul can be returned from the wood.

You follow the sound of an axe, and at its source find Khrimm chopping at a tree in his attempt to prove that the elementals do not exist. He claims to have seen Fye's brother and his parents in the forest and they were not wildlings. It is this that has caused him to cease to believe in the elementals. The Moogle entrusts you with another message for Fye from the elementals themselves. They ask that she stop wandering the forest.

You become to be regarded as one of those beckoned by the forest, a fact evidenced by the elemental's entrusting you with a message.

You come upon Brother O-App-Peso of the conjurers and Great Bow Lewin of the archers and learn that it was indeed Fye's brother Dunstan who brought down the Hedge. Dunstan was once one of the Wood Wailers, but was later exiled from Gridania and is now thought to be searching for his sister. Lewin requests that you lend your strength in hunting down Dunstan and protecting the forest.
