Exactly. Give us some large barren open areas like La Theine with nothing in them except some repeated trees and similar looking holes! Make people happier.
I wouldn't have noticed the copy and paste in XIV without looking on the maps. It's most obvious in Thanalan with those huge square features however.
Well, okay in grid it's a little obvious.
I thought Thanalan was the most impressive visually though. Or maybe it's 'cause you can't see shit in a sandstorm. Well w/e....
The less interesting your terrain is, the less noticable any repetition will be. The smaller zones you design, the less you will have to use said repetition.
You're not going to notice sand dune repetition in Valkurm. You're not going to notice river piece repetition in Sarutabaruta when they just go in straight lines and 90-degree turns. You're not going to notice pond-shape repetition when there's only room for one in any given zone. You're not going to notice the rock formations around Sarutabaruta campfires because you... just didn't care.
If you're looking for the repetition, you will find it.
Go look at Purgonurgo Isle's paths. Go look at any fucking cave tunnel that is the same damn shape with barely altered textures. Go look at any intersection in the Den of Rancor. Go look at everything inside any Horutoto Ruins zone. The entire length of that fucking zone between Bastok/Altepa that I can't think of the name of at this second. Sea Serpent Grotto. Come on.
When a game is brand new, that's only time you're going to notice it and possibly care about it whatsoever. 8 years down the line, you don't even give a shit about the scenery. You're too busy heading through the two almost-identical rooms of lower Boyahda Tree on your way to the Aery. You're too busy auto-running on your Chocobo through Zi'Tah's repeated tunnels with leeches, root bridges over ponds, and circular water formations with crystals/golems in the middle. You're too busy fleeing down the same ledge-drop 4 times on the way to Charybdis' room in Sea Serpent Grotto... wait, I've seen this room somewhere before.
It's all a bunch of bullshit conjured up by people simply wanting to fling mud at SE and/or XIV.
Damnit man, I wish god would stop being lazy and copy and pasting terrain!

I don't want to play this game any more.![]()
You are unbearably stupid. I shouldn't even need to point this out, honestly, after you basically said "I realize this is a false dichotomy but logic never stopped me before", but I feel compelled to.
P.S. Calm down, no one is trying to threaten your daily dose of man meat.
What I find so funny is the people in this thread causing such a big fuss over this that has not mentioned or said anything about this until the article was released.
Holy shit this is getting blown way out of proportion.
To be fair, this game shouldn't have anywhere near the amount of clonestamping that's been pointed out when the #1 selling point is its visuals. Its just lazy with their type of budget and the time they've had to create it.
It's not a big deal, but this shit is just target practice for anybody who isn't on the SE gravytrain atm. I don't even think this would have been brought up if it wasn't for the fact that the rest of the important parts of the game are broken or half-baked with retail set in stone.
I think the engine is rock-solid, but their level editor must still be stuck in 2003. They need a make coffee button to get this shit fixed asap $$$
Sorry, bad choice of words.
Not overall, just certain aspects of it. In this case, the pretty colors.![]()
Sorry, my curiosity made me click "view post." Good thing you didn't bother with reading comprehension before you jumped right into your default offensive and disregardful retort. That would have taken the 5 seconds that you needed to troll around and be a dick elsewhere.
Every MMO copy-pastes. What I'm more worried about is square falling back to FFXI style cermet dungeon design where you end up in a featureless series of tunnels possibly connected by teleporters that shoot you out different places.
The desert areas so far have not been too bad with copy paste just due to a variety of Doodads and having some areas that are very distinct that take up large portions of the map. The mountain I think is currently the most in need of some more eye candy off to the side of passages: extra parts of ruins and a few more points of interest instead of just rocks and grass would be nice.
Mor Dohna at least is full of a variety of serious business mobs so it's unlikely you'll be worrying about passages looking similar while trying not to get smashed by truffle hogs, toxic todes, and pestes, and ogres, and ahrimans.
I wish there were more dynamic areas in 14 though. Even just taking some of the terran that they used in grindia's entrance for example and creating a river valley in the middle of the woods would be cool.
Also anton lol if you haven't seen the keeper of the lake yourself. The area has awesome music. What the hell are you doing in the beta if not exploring?
There's already a thread in Media for you guys to shit up.
