As we recently reported, Ricky Gervais revealed he'd be returning to The Office soon, to shoot his second cameo this season as David Brent. That being the case, and knowing that Steve Carell is already done (as he won't be appearing in the final four episodes of Season 7), it was hard not to ponder whether Gervais might be in the season finale. Now, EW confirms this is indeed the case, and that Gervais won't be the only special guest in the season finale, as he'll be joined by Will Arnett (Arrested Development).

This is where it gets interesting and speculation comes into play. Gervais has gone on record that he'd recommended Arnett to NBC for an ongoing role on The Office… and we still don't know who the new boss on the show will be, with Michael Scott gone. Some have wondered whether Gervais was secretly going to come on board full time, with David Brent taking over, but that seems highly unlikely – The busy Gervais doesn't seem to be the type to commit to a 22-episode a season American sitcom schedule. However, Arnett showing up in the finale makes it hard not to ponder if his character, whomever that might be, could be the one to get the big job at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch.

Meanwhile though, EW's sources tell them not to assume either Arnett or Gervais will be sticking around and also hint at some other notable guest stars in the season finale...

I agree, best episode so far...I'm guessing only the "Goodbye Michael" episode could possibly top this. I laughed, cried and laughed again.

And even the xmas episode from this season. But last nights was definitely top 3 of this year...maybe of the past few seasons.
