Or is this just the opinion of a single journalist?
Not that I wouldnt love another price cut, I know me and friends were sold on the system once the price was announced. Also thanks to the announced games.
Because people need SOMETHING to gripe about. They don't seem to realize that 3DS was not originally worth 250 at all. Nintendo loves to spout the "we feel that our content is justified" then they lower the price in 6 months. The Vita however is a nice little piece of hardware and dropping the msrp would probably cripple profits(all over again).

PlayStation Vita launch date will be announced at TGS
Sony has confirmed that it will reveal the final launch date of the PlayStation Vita at the Tokyo Game Show. As revealed yesterday, the company will not be releasing the system to North America or Europe before Christmas as originally hoped.

It's currently expected that Japan will get the system before 2011 ends, while we'll have to wait a few months at least. Sony boss Kaz Hirai has said that this is to ensure a strong launch library which, if true, is a very respectable reason.

SCEJ president Hiroshi Kawano has said that the date is "finalized", so look forward to that leaking ahead of the show!

Yes, the price is perfect, but dont let Sony know that!! Cancel your pre orders and start bitching on the forums of gaming sites so Sony think it has to knock off $50~ to rival the 3DS.

Hope they'll get it over with early on in TGS, 'cause last year's TGS was a fucking snooze-fest.

This. Nintendo was selling it at a profit, that alone should say enough about it's real value. Granted I will say I was surprised they knocked as much off of the price as they did.

It's too bad, but with the current economy I don't think this piece will sell as much as it should. It's worth every cent but that doesn't mean enough people can afford it. I think 3DS will end up looking more appealing, because it is more affordable.

It doesn't help that Sony is going to release it first in a region where PSP is still going strong, while ignoring the holiday season in the West where the PSP was already struggling. I can't understand that decision. They should try to penetrate either EU or the US market before its too late.

Disgaea 3 Returns Confirmed for PlayStation Vita

Nippon Ichi including all download content from PS3 version, and new scenarios.
There were some reports a few weeks back about a Disgaea 3 remake or port being planned for PlayStation Vita. Dengeki PlayStation confirms those reports this wek.

The game in question is titled Disgaea 3 Return. Nippon Ichi is making some improvements over the PS3 original, including the use of close-up character pics (seen in Disgaea 4), four new scenarios, and two new characters. All the DLC from the PS3 will be included.

The original reports said that the game would be released opposite the Vita launch. It's unclear at present if Dengeki confirms this, although we'll hopefully get more details later in the day.

Disgaea 3 Return to be Playable at Tokyo Game Show

Nippon Ichi CEO discusses plans for Vita port, and future plans for Vita.
Dengeki PlayStation does not have a release time frame for Disgaea 3 Return. However, it does provide an indication of when we'll get to play the PlayStation Vita title.

In an interview with the magazine, Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Niikawa says that current plans call for the game to be shown in playable form at this year's Tokyo Game Show, which will be held in mid September.

As detailed earlier, the Vita port of PlayStation 3's Disgaea 3 will feature four new scenarios. These all take place after the main storyline and have different main characters. They're meant to shine the spotlight on side characters. One of the four scenarios will feature two new characters.

In his interview, Niikawa said the main attraction for the Vita version is the new scenarios. The last of the four scenarios is so long that one could actually say the game includes five new scenarios, he said.

The Vita version will also include all the PS3 version's download content, including the four chapters of the Raspberyl scenario, 49 background tracks, 29 save data icons, and so-forth.

There could be additional Vita exclusive features besides the new scenarios. Niikawa said that they're hoping to make use of positional information and touch functionality. The Vita version may also get its own download content, although if this were the case the content would focus on characters from Disgaea 4.

One thing that won't be changing is the sprite resolution. Niikawa said that they were considering upping the visuals the high resolution like in Disgaea 4, but instead decided to focus on adding content to the game. He assured that the game looks beautiful on the Vita screen.

The Vita version may have faster load times than PS3 version. While the game is not yet running on the system's flash cards, Niikawa expects the loading to be better due to both the Vita's advanced capabilities and better memory management (I'm not sure if he's referring to the Vita's better memory management or the programmers' better memory management).

Nippon Ichi will be looking at the response Return gets to decide what type of titles they should bring to the Vita, Niikawa said.

Separate from Disgaea 3 Return, Niikawa also provided hints about four of Nippon Ichi's unannounced games. For details, see this story.

Sony Wants to Know What PlayStation Vita Peripherals You Want

UMD drive, HDMI cradle, and support battery among popular responses.
Continuing a series of surveys at the Japanese PlayStation Vita Community Site, Sony has opened a question asking readers what peripherals they want for the platform. Free responses are being accepted through the 17th. If you've got the nihongo skills, voice your opinion here.

A quick scan of the current responses shows some expected results: a UMD drive, a cradle with HDMI out, a compact full keyboard, and a grip adapter with a secondary battery built in. UMD drive does seem to be the most popular response so far. Sony will be sharing a formal look at the results after submissions end.

Sony previously asked readers what types of non gaming apps they want released for the system. The results of this survey will be shared in a future update.

Well if their launch lineup is as robust as I expect it to be, will be for me as well. Showing nintendo how to launch a handheld.

The on-stage demos they showed did not show very well imo. Resistance... chopping up that alien with an axe looked about as HD as doom... tossing in every gimmick control scheme and showing a garbage fighter that was only made to make use of the "augmented reality" has me LESS excited about when it is finally released.

    Well this is pretty aggressive

    http://www.develop-online.net/news/3...dev-kit-priced

GDC Europe: Studios looking to make games on PSP successor will only have to pay €1,900

Speaking at GDC Europe, SCEE's George Bain has confirmed the price studios will have to pay for a PlayStation Vita development kit.

"The PS Vita development kit is going to be very affordable," said Bain. "And when I say affordable I mean €1,900 plus VAT."

The price, which Shuhei Yoshida told Develop would be within the financial reach of smaller studios back in June at EA, will come as good news to numerous small and medium studios. Web speculation to this point had suggested the price would be around $3,000.

The €1,900 price tag is significantly lower than the €20,000 charged for PS2 and PS3 dev kits, and the €15,000 fee for a PSP dev kit.

"There is no cost to join the PS Vita Develop Program," Bain added. "There's just that cost of the dev kit. If you're a small developer, we happy to talk to you about this. It will help if you have a games portfolio. There's no reason we won't speak with smaller studios about joining up."

Bain also confirmed that prototype dev kits can be free, and revealed that the SCEA PubFund, which offers studios budget for the creation of exclusive titles, is currently seeing up to 15 pitches a week.

The PS Vita Dev kit will, unlike the consumer version, feature HDMI out.

Bain concluded by confirming that while the Vita will eventually see non-gaming apps created with Sony partners, for now the company is only accepting game proposals. the system will also, like the PS3, boast support for freemium gaming models.
Lowering the cost of entry into making Vita games = more games for everyone. APPROVED!
