it's pretty simple... unless I can re-dl the games I own for at least a hefty discount the machine is staying on the shelf. That might change once the machine can hold it's own but not before..

I honestly have to believe that in the coming weeks they will do it. There's enough people flipping shit on the internet about it, and enough to affect sales, that they will add the UMD passport system eventually. Worst case, the system has already been hacked, give it a few weeks and the psp community will figure it out and you'll be set.

Oh and by the way, in Japan converting your UMD to a Vita game costs almost the same price we are paying here to buy the game flat out on PSN. Some games cost upward of 3000 yen(30 bucks) to convert. It varies depending on the game.

So, Sony wouldn't be doing us much of a favor by giving us the same plan.

of course 3000 yen is a pretty decent discount if they normally cost 6000.

Prices in Japan do not really translate to prices in the us.

Nigga you is gonna have to show some sources on that 3,000 number.

On the official site, the majority of titles eligible for Japan's UMD Passport program are discounted down to between 500 and 1000 yen. The most expensive one I could find was Persona 3 Portable at 1,500 yen.

Whoops I misread the article I was looking at. 1500 yen is still 20 bucks. AND you have to keep your PSP available to reactivate the game on PSN every 7 days.

A cursory glance at the prices of downloadable titles between the JP and NA PSN stores show they do not use a straight JPY/USD conversion. Which makes sense since there's nothing to import. Sources, do you speak it?

Does anyone know what special thing I have to do to connect my Vita to my PS3? I have the USB cord plugged in and my Ps3 sees the Vita. I was even able to Format the memory card via the Ps3 but the Vita won't connect so I can't throw games on it

Honestly, part of me is with the "Shiny new toy I wants it!" crowd, part of me is with the "UMD program please" (I have about 12-14 PSP Games, maybe 2 or so were from PSN), and more importantly, a video out option, which means waiting for a hardware revision.

"What's the point of getting a handheld if you just want to play it on TV?" - Lately I prefer playing on a monitor. I tend to like handheld gaming for their bigger games, not the quick play for 10-15 minute type deal, and that's done at home. Also, you can stream it. Also uncertain if PSV can let you use your PS3 controller like the PSP Go could, which was a really neat feature for a lot of games, minus no second analog stick, since none of the games were programmed for them, but with PSV, they will be.

Option #2: Buy now, resell later... Though if PSN downloads are tied to the actual handheld unit, and NOT the PSN account, I dunno about that either.

Anyone know of a full on breakdown of it's capabilities and missing features?

They aren't. Once you put an psn account on the vita, it's locked to it, but you can factory reset it (which you'd do anyway if selling it), and then use a different one.

the vita is designed to play on a small screen and look amazing, they don't want that to be messed up and they don't want it competing with the ps3 for space on your tv. they've been pretty determined about that fact. ps3 hooks up to tv, vita does not. umd program won't come here, just like they never did anything with the go either, even though they talked about it. too much room for abuse in the states.

It wouldn't kill them to have Airplay-like functionality though, assuming Sony reserved a good amount of the hardware for system-level processes this time around. Not fast enough for realtime use, but good enough for others to watch without peeking over your shoulder, and would opens means of streaming video.

I don't see how that would be a bad thing, in either case.

- You could say the PSP was designed to play on a small screen and look amazing, there's really not too much stopping you from playing it on a TV (or monitor, in my case) at a small size to keep that quality. Not to mention if you put it in via some type of streaming device, it would show at native size and be playable in a window. I think streaming would be pretty popular too, lots of people will buy games after seeing people stream them, asking questions, etc, or put up Youtube videos (preferably not taken on cameras). Not trying to use catchphrases, but socialization of gaming is becoming a big thing, and being able to share what you play is huge (Justin/Twitch.tv). It doesn't compete for my TV space, it compliments it.

- UMD program, to be honest, I don't see it coming here either. I think the only real chance of that is some kind of major bombing in the sales early on, something so noticeable financially, that Sony has to respond. Considering what happened with the 3DS, this might just be a chance where voting with my wallet does count.

sony have pretty much said they aren't doing one for the vita like they did with the psp. they want ps3 on tv, and vita not on tv.
