Phantasy Star Online 2 Update

Sega of Japan held a media briefing for PSO2 today, and they happened to announce quite a few interesting things. Here's what you need to know.

• Free to play
  Phantasy Star Online 2 will be free to play! To get started all you'll have to do is download the game from the PSN and begin [s]playing[/s] patching the fuck out of it. Like with Sega's other free to play game for Vita "Samurai and Dragons", expect the retail version to come with a bunch of vouchers and stuff. Also expect to pay money if you want Trophies, as Sony doesn't allow free games to have Trophies.
• Cash Shop (or "Freemium model")
  To make up for PSO2 being free to play, Sega has a Cash Shop like with Phantasy Star Universe. Officially the system is called "Arks Cash". This might include clothing, armor, weapons, and MAGs. Don't worry though if you don't plan to buy anything, Sega has claimed that there will be no restrictions imposed on free users and that the items sold in the Cash Shop will not be "over powered". They believe all users should be able to complete the same content together, as opposed to other freemium models that are ultimately pay-to-win.
• Release window!
  The PS Vita version will be coming out last, following the PC and Android/iOS versions. The Japanese release (expect a USA one in the coming months) is set for Spring 2013. Unlike the Android/iOS version though, the Vita version is confirmed to be the real deal like the PC version and not a downsized "App" version.
• Beta test!
  After the release of the game on PC, Sega will be holding beta tests for both smartphone and Vita versions of the game. So if you get hype just enough, you can play this ahead of time.

Another reason for a vita, speaking of which, i finally purchased a vita and took advantage of target's buy 2 get 1 game free and i'm straight up addicted to katamari and lumines. I haven't even touched uncharted or hot shots golf yet... Lol.

A question tho, i got the vita pouch to hold my headset and games in it along w/ the vita, anyone have a suggestion for an awesome case for it? Nothing tops my logitech playgear case for my psp, i've had that case for around 7 years and it still works perfect. So i kinda wanted to find something similar to it.

I am hearing that this is the closest thing to the Logitech case: PDP PSVita Custom Crystal Case
The thing I love about my Logitech is that I can create my own designs for it. This is similar, though sadly less real estate to work with as the case isn't completely clear like the Logitech.

Sony has pulled two PSP titles from the PlayStation Network due to concerns of Vita exploitation within their code bases. The two games: Hot Shots Tennis and MotorStorm Arctic Rift are no longer available for download from any device that can connect to the PSN.

The hack arises from a security issue in the Vita’s “PSP Mode”, an emulation environment that allows your PlayStation Vita to run downloaded PlayStation Portable games you’ve bought from the marketplace. The alleged hack allows for the use of unsigned code, permitting homebrew software to run on the system.

This can result in game piracy, system manipulation, and Sony’s worst fear, network disturbance.

I understand Sony’s choice to do this, as they’ve seen their fair share of hacks and exploits no doubt – but it’s certainly not a fix I’d label elegant.

Hopefully a more permanent fix comes from Sony soon, as blocking consumers from purchasing games certainly isn’t a long-term solution.

Bullshit. All it allows you to do is run certain psp homebrew. You can't even pirate psp games with it, let alone vita games.

Just wanted to chime in that I LOVE my PDP Crystal Case. I used to have the logitech case as well and this the closest I could find. The only thing I recommend is that you trim out the circle for the analog sticks. The padding is a little too snug imo, so I just took an exacto knife and cut the circle out and it fits much better.

I'm not too familiar with this model.. how much of a profit do companies reap with games like this?

Finally got my Vita! Grabbed FIFA and Hot Shots for it, and then grabbed MHFU just because I know I will sink hours into it even though I have MHP3rd on my PSP. Came home, and spent the next 3 hours creating wallpaper screens and printouts for my Crystal Case. Fuck man, aesthetics get me every time.

Oh and in my hunt for templates I came across these. They are pretty badass, and I figured I would share should anyone want to spice up their screens but lack the creative know how to do so themselves. Once I finish my own themed BGRs I will post em up.

Oh good god, this case is wonderful. One of the best for any handheld devices i've ever owned.

I am seriously considering getting this. Loved Disgaea but never got super hardcore into it. I am fairly certain that I have Disgaea 2 for PSP somewhere... though I never played much of it. I have heard that 3 is better than 2 was, and this has all the DLC from the PS3 version. Only thing stopping me is, well, the fact that I have had my Vita for a few weeks and even with Hot Shots and FIFA for it, I have put about 16 hours into Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Must decide!

Agreed. I have found a case that I like to keep the PSP in while playing so I am much more used to a case that is just a case, and the Crystal Case was perfect. I just need to find the perfect images for it. Right now I am using artwork from the trusty and ever impressive Audrey Kawasaki. Her wood canvases go very nicely with the black plastic.

Oh and here are my background screens that I have made for myself so far. I will likely add more as I fill them up with shit.
