I live 1hr away from DC, maybe I'll go with my BG hat on to see if I run into anyone.
I like both Stewart and Colbert, though I think Colbert is more consistently funny. Having said that, I think they are both utterly wrong in this case and doing far more harm than good.
What are they mocking? A group of people who showed up to celebrate the things that bind us together, kindness, and bringing faith back into the public sphere in hopes of a better more understanding future. Why on earth would you want to mock that message unless your own beliefs are that of intolerance, hatred and divisiveness. Anyone supporting this "rally" has just become that which they claim to hate and be against.
Whats almost worse is the supposed "glee" with which many take up the cause to mock others. Yea, I want to live in the world *you* are making, douchebags.
Yes, they're mocking a group of uneducated people who repeat everything that they hear with no ability to think for themselves because they feel they need to "take America back" from something when it has never gone anywhere to begin with. As to the "Yea, I want to live in the world *you* are making, douchebags"; I'd rather not live in your world either, a world blinded by misguided people who are unable to think for themselves and can only spew what they hear from whatever media outlet they get their news from. As for myself, I plan to go for the free comedy show because that's really what this is.
I've have flown over from Sydney to participate, but I have a hard deadline in early November to finish my project at work :/
I would love to go to this, unfortunately I probably won't be able to.
As for the 'message' Stewart and Colbert are trying to send... it might be partly to mock Glenn Beck, yes. But I think the overarching message they are trying to relay is very simple and was already pretty much stated by Stewart himself: this political shit has gotten way the fuck out of hand lately, and those 20% of left or right wing nutjobs need to "take it down a notch" and stop being batshit insane, for the good of America. Even if gathering a bunch of people who support this view from that estimated 'other 80%' doesn't really accomplish anything major, at the very least it will make some people stop and think about it for a minute. It will put a more lighthearted spin on the country's political view for at least a day or two, and that will be a real breath of fresh air contrary to the shit that has been spewed from all sides recently.
except that all other news network shows wont even mention it, so none of the "extremist" people will even know anything took place.
so basically, as said before, Free comedy show.
I'll be there sporting my new shirt

Pretty sure Native American isn't a language.
especially considering many tribes each had their own language.
I think they prefer Indian
Think my uncle is going to go to this. He doesn't like stewart/colbert too much, but then he doesn't like anybody (he's the "they're all crooks!" type of guy). He loves going to protests though so this might just get added to his list anyways.
