We won't really know until after the elections. It's pretty murky regarding how this one is gonna go.

I know I'm not the best representation of an average American, but the Tea Party scares me, and the fact that so many people are going along with it makes it even worse for me. I just look at it, and it all seems so obvious that this is all bad news, and I don't quite get how so many people are being taken in by this ruse.

It's because life sucks right now, and it wasn't all that great before either. People are angry, and have been for a while, and when the average person gets angry, rational thinking goes out the window.

On a related note, I actually find it kind of a sad statement that one of the countries most earnest and scathing news programs is on Comedy Central. Now, obviously, it's still mostly a comedy show, but over the past five or so years, they've had some brilliant moments. Like when they called out the news channels on how they report stuff, and the general take no prisoners attitude Jon uses when he really gets on someone. I don't know though, satire has always been used as a tool to show society it's own follies, but really? The Daily Show is just about the best we can do?

I don't think this rally will really accomplish anything in and of itself, but I think it's an important start to counter the rise in more fear based movements around the country.

I see what you're saying, but I'd have to say comedy central is actually the best venue. So much that stewart/colbert get away with is being on that station. and considering the channel has really nothing else going for it, they will probably forever let stewart/colbert do whatever the fuck they want.

I don't think they ever will or should leave it.

Shows like the daily show are always a good way to emphisise the failings in any situation, especially politics because they cut through the bullshit more often than not. Here in the UK we have a few panel shows that do this in a very comedic way (Mock the week & have i got news for you, are the best examples) they not only criticise our government and practices but also hit out at international politics too. If we had our own Daily Show over here it would likely be one of the top 20 viewed programs after soaps and reality tv.
