Here's a translated trailer for those interested.

Very exciting, I love Disgaea games but some reason I can never finish them... The level grind gets to me too much lol so I just do the story and pretty much stop anything else. Think the highest level I got was 400 in the original.
some of that shit with stacking looks insane. jumping rope? bending the stack over to grab treasure? I'm curious to see how it's all going to work.
regardless, the real big news is the HD sprites, and it's about fucking time. very happy about that.
I may be the only person in existence that wants this, but I'd love some good ol' customized auto-battling for this game. With all the tedious clicking that goes on, sometimes I wish I could play the game with my mind, and after 3 games worth of grinding, grinding, grinding, I'd love a little FFT auto-battle support for some of the characters that are pretty simplistic (go here, pound this face in, go to the next guy).

Since I saw Axel in trailer, watch everyone from 1-3 is going to be in the post-game lol
Am I the only one not that excited about this? I barely made it through halfway of 3 because of how dull the series has gotten. Also all of the new jump/stack/whatever they're doing looks annoying as hell. The biggest thing that I hated was being forced to use throw in the item world to reach islands or whatever. meh.
I'll eventually get around to finishing 3, maybe, then maybe I'll have this to look forward to later <_<
I thought 3 was a lot better than 2, but only because it mimicked 1 so much. But I still found the story and characters more interesting than 1, or rather more refined.
The main game in Disgaea can be about strategy, but the later fights are all about how much you grind. If you want tactics or strategy, oddly enough I don't think Disgaea is for you.
I wish this was portable![]()
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/09/27...e-netherworld/Dengeki PlayStation has feature on Disgaea 4 with nuggets of news.
New to Disgaea 4 is a Professor job and a union command for
monsters. Another class system change is Disgaea 4 drops gender
differences. Nippon Ichi also tweaked the tower system so its
possible to move and pick up objects in Disgaea 4.
The story doesn’t just involve vampires like Valbatoze, the main
character. Disgaea 4 also has werewolves and of course demons.
The three races have differences and are integral to the story.
Dengeki also mentions the lowest level of hell is a prison. Hey, wait…
doesn’t that sound like another Nippon Ichi game, Criminal Girls?
Disgaea 4 levels up in Japan on February 24, 2011 before its
thrown to North America for a summer release.
Wonder what the new Professor Job will be like. And I wonder how the new Class System and Races will play out, and what Union Command will be like.

Figures they'd bring back the Disgaea 1 crew.......and Axel again. >.> No way they were going to let prinny girl get off with that many penguins without Etna making an appearance and bitching about her handling of them.
Also, call me a whiner if you wish, but I really don't know how NIS thinks making a sprite that's semi-blurred already, double the size for its new feature. It doesn't help the PS2-era graphics any, and it'll be 2011 when the game is out. Sprites should be perfectly sharp at all times, Flash has been doing it with vector graphics for years now, I can't see why they didn't adapt some form of method of rendering vectored sprites within the game's engine. The game so far doesn't look to be doing anything with its graphics, so I doubt the overhead of rendering the sprites using a vector format would affect the framerate at all.
Man, those sprites look beautiful. I can't wait to see this in action.
I wonder how strong the new Combine Command will be. It already looks pretty damn nice from what I read, maybe monsters will be used even more now
They'd have to be pretty fucking powerful, otherwise I'd rather use two beefy humanoid characters to gang-rape a target instead rather than wasting 2 unit slots just to merge one slightly-stronger mob. I can see it being great for earlier on in the game if you want to effectively double your damage output on a higher level mob, but for end-game I still expect it to turn into a game of min-maxing gear for the humanoids, unless they're overhauling the innocents system as well.
(I wouldn't mind that actually. The standard formula for Disgaea started to wear on me after getting post-endgame in Disgaea 3, a change in pace would keep things fresh)
It seems you can magichange the combined mob also? I'm looking at the one pic with the protagonist and that green dragon sword being fucking huge compared to the snapshot left of it.
Starting from this work, a new command used by monsters,
"Combine", becomes possible. In that case, they won't become
weapons, but they'll combine and become gigantic! When they
become big, various other things will also become big, such as stats
such as HP increasing and powering up, their movement range
extending, and the effect range of their special skills widening.
When they combine, their appearance and [reliability?] will
drastically rise. Trample and kick the enemy around with this new
power!
This hugeness is definitely made up of two bodies!!
Surprise power up!
Dunno if you already read it translated, but there it is
Forgot to post this earlier this morning
You can also find the link to form on there as well.Nippon Ichi needs your help! They’re looking for random names for
generic characters, like this male warrior. What do you want to call
him?
Don’t tell us. Tell Nippon Ichi by filling out this form. You can enter a
name that’s up to ten characters (katakana / hiragana / kanji /
numbers / letters from the English alphabet) and gain Disgaea fame
if your name gets selected.
Write a nickname, something Nippon Ichi can credit you with on a
website, in Q1.
Q2 is where you put your idea for a random name.
Q3 is reserved for Disgaea 4 comments.
The contest is on now and runs until October 29 (Japan time). …
