Im not gonna lie... thats a bad play, a REALLY bad play.... but it was one of many, one of many. 5 goals in the 3rd is an entire team collapsing, not just 1 bad play.

Speaking of karmic justice, If you could build a team off bad luck, the Leafs would have Messier, Anderson, Kurri, Coffey and Gretsky.

Every game looks like it costs Ron Wilson 2 years of his life and 3 hours of sleep. The poor guy's gonna die before they fire him. What hell it must be to coach a team where the second line is the first line, the first line is useless, the captain is out with injuries, the franchise player is worthless, the goalie lets in 2 goals every night, and the farm system is completely devoid of talent (except Nazem Khadri, who, I think, they don't want to play while the main team is garbage so he doesn't get blamed, too)

At their absolute best - everything is done right - the leafs can compete. Even win some. But they're not good enough to win without perfection. Oh well, draft picks amirite?

Their biggest failing, IMO, is their neutral zone play. It started this season so good, they stole literally every pass, the defense stood up like a bawss, and the forwards and the d line played as a 5 man unit. By increasing the distance between the wingers and the defense (IE: Wingers getting lazy), they lowered the completion %. Now we dump in or turn it over. It lowers our possession and how many offensive chances we get (and we need every chance we can get).

It's Lazy.

We have no centers, so much of the pass game falls on the wingers to hustle around. But when the wingers start cherrypicking because they haven't scored, the short-pass system, the reason for our once-stunning speed, breaks down completely. In every one of our first four wins we outshot the opposing team heavily and often lopsidedly, and we looked gassed by the end of the third period. Now we look gassed when we hit the ice, and there's nothing slower than a team that can't pass well.

Look real hard at Kessel - when he starts phoning it in, he's slow to get back and sits on the perimeter more than he charges the net. If you're watching a TOR game and kessel is shooting from the boards, he is playing uselessly and you should switch channels.
