Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't the Chicago contingency in this thread been bitching about Keith all year?

He's not playing consistently badly, he actually had a really good two week span a bit ago, but he's being too aggressive and getting beaten that's leading directly to big goals, both Phoenix goals came on him getting beaten on a pinch and he coughed one up for a goal right in front of his own net against the Ducks that let them get away with an overtime point. He was largely responsible for the OT game-winner in that game as well, but still.

I think part of it is that he's so used to have Seabrook behind him, but Quenneville is fucking with pairings recently and has been playing Keith/Boynton, Seabrook/Cullimore, and Hjalmarsson/Campbell. Mistakes are easier to recover from with Seabrook as your backup than they are with Boynton, who really shouldn't be seeing first-pairing minutes.

Also, on Green:

Keith is still playing fairly well, but he's made some very ill timed mistakes that lead directly to goals, multiple times this year. It doesn't help that he's paired with Boynton for some reason, who can't cover for Keith's screw up like Seabrook can/did. He's still an elite defensemen but he's not playing the same caliber as we're used to and doesn't appear to be as super human as in years past. No idea why though.

You both mention the Boynton pairing, and I know exactly what you mean. I hate it when BB juggles the pairings here, he's had to because of Poti's injury but breaking up Carlson and Alzner and putting one of them with Sloan or Erskine has been dreadful so far. The bottom four just looks out of sync. And then when you reunite the normal pairs they need some time to get back on track. Luckily he's left Green and Schultz alone for the most part, though.

That's the main issue, was the reason for the fucked up pairings was Campbell being hurt and it was hard to find another good match for Hjalmarsson...but now that he's back they're still fucking with pairings and I can't think of any reason why it shouldn't just be Keith/Seabrook, Hammer/Campbell, and then if Boynton/Cullimore is too suspect as a third pairing just alternate shifts of Keith/Boynton and Seabrook/Cullimore.

Well people always ride Goligoski for every little error and suck Letang's dick for every time he clears the zone or gets in a fight. Goligoski is a better skater / puck mover and has 100x better shooting capabilities. People are stuck in their perception of his 2008-2009 rookie season defense so the second he makes even the slightest gaffe they start saying how terrible at defense he is when he's not that bad anymore. He ties up the sticks he has to, hes a little more physical - at least not a paperweight anymore, he has the speed to recover, he's just really aggressive jumping in on plays but then Pens need that cause Lord knows Crosby aint going to get shit for help on a rush from his wingers.

Can't argue with the fact that hes kept up with Letang in +/- (theyre #1 and #2 on the team in that category) and he has more goals ON LESS SHOTS than Letang. Letang can't shoot to save his life, the kid took like 180 shots last year and had 2 goals. Goligoski took less than 100 and had what? 9-10 goals? Without Gonchar we need SOMEONE from the point who can snipe/move the puck.

Bob McKenzie offers commentary finally on Campbell-gate. Hard to disagree with pretty much anything he says, as much as it sucks that he's right in saying it. I mean, I agree with his article, but wish it wasn't the case, but as we all knew from the start, nothing would come of these Campbell emails.
