So his reasoning is that Campbell is from the days of old-school hackey, and thus isn't constrained by such things as not being biased?

I wonder how the Bruins feel about the emails. Also wouldn't mind a statement from the referees union.

From the former ref whose unlawful termination suit against the NHL was the source of the emails to begin with.
I think it's more so that his fellow old-schoolers are the ones running the NHL and franchises' front offices, and they're the ones who make the decisions about whether or not his job is in jeopardy. It would take something way bigger than this for the establishment to turn on Campbell, and even more so for them to dissolve the position and have a committee of more than one person handle these things. And let's be honest, recent decisions haven't had the gravity of a Dale Hunter or Marty McSorley or Todd Bertuzzi to them.
Yep, basically its a good old gentleman's club and he's part of it.
Yeah, except that excuse pisses me off. "Old school" hockey is supposed to be about doing the right thing, even if you have to punch a guy to do it. I like that. "Old school" has nothing to do with having pet-favourites, or pet-grudges.
No I agree its bullshit, especially considering the ppl who are running hockey now are 30 years behind the current NHL in their culture and mindsets.
Fuckin Andrew Alberts, knew this guy was bound to fail. Yet some people still defend his recent "ok" playing. His -3 should finally Ballard back onto the ice. Unless he's injured, no reason why Ballard shouldn't be playing. Tomorrow's game should summarize this 5 game road trip. Both teams have something to go for.
How do you think it's different? I understand the whole "games faster now/dudes need to wear shit on their head" thing, but what do you see as really changing in the culture between the transition of "old" to "new"? I have to think that the kids getting into the NHL today aren't working just as hard as people 30, 40 years ago. Maybe just with how the game has gotten bigger, so there's more of an institution to deal with instead of, like you mentioned, an old gentlemen's club?
I'm not trying to get all Kuya up in this bitch, I just really took umbrage to the idea that McKenzie is putting out that well, that's how it used to be, because I would think that there is no way this shit would fly anymore then than it should today.
Caaaaaammelleri!!
1-0 Habs!
Leafs are imploding upon themselves more than usual tonight. I think they forget what colours their jerseys are and think the NSH forwards are on their team...
Edit: Versteeg w/ 2 PP goals to bring the Leafs within 1~
I benched Carey Price in fear of him having a rough game against a good Philadelphia offense.
Now he is halfway to a shutout.
Pleeeeeeeekanec!!! Nifty look-away shot.
2-0 Habs!
Wait how the fuck does Cammalleri have the PP goal, and the Habs are up 2-0 yet he's a 0 on the +/-? Yahoo is screwing me...
Or does it only count even strength as for or against +/-?
Special teams goals (goals against on PK and goals for on PP) are not counted on +/-. SH goals and 6 on 5 goals do count for +/-.
