So Al MacInnis, no. Scott Stevens? Hes a shrimp and rarely checks (although can muscle decently around the net due to his leverage and being able to get under people's center of mass), so not Scott Stevens-ish either. Paul Coffey would be the closest of the three, I guess.

I just picked three of the best D-men from my youth, not really comparing them skill wise. Coffey does seem to be the gold standard of slick-skating offensive defensemen though. Was really just talking about the hype around the young man in this thread and in my fantasy drafts, and the comparisons between him and Letang. He's on pace for roughly 15-25-40 and +42, so he's obviously doing something right. Just didn't see anything that popped to me tonight but I will definitely be watching more of him, Letang and the rest of the wacky crew once football is over and the NBC broadcasts start.

I'd say yes statistically, but honestly a lot of goalies who were supposed to be very good this year are mediocre at best, the 'good' category is pretty slim and many times good just by comparison. I'd say Quick is 4th out of the top 5 at this point in the season, only because he's played a lot more than Lindback. Thomas > Pavelec > Price are the top 3 for sure though.

Yes, really, lol. Not that he hasn't had some good games, but the others have been lights out, and anytime someone skates within 5 feet of Fleury while he's trying to handle the puck he shits his pants.

edit: fwiw I'm not just being anti-Pens, he has nearly identical stats to Corey Crawford, and even as a homer I'd say Crawford's been solid but not great by any stretch of the imagination.

Fleury's stats are only "pedestrian" and "identical to Corey Crawford's" cause of his shitty start. Everyone knows the clown can't handle the puck but still tries to - should he never be allowed to be considered a top 5 goalie ever cause of that? Ondrej Pavelac can't handle standing in his crease while the plays in the other end.

The same can be said for almost every game Turco's played, doesn't mean I want him starting tonight or would consider him one of the better goaltenders in the league atm, lol. And not saying his shitty start rules him out from being a top 5 goaltender ever, I'm saying it rules him out until there's only 4 or less goalies in the league playing better than him.

edit: also Crawford started like 0-4 with terrible stats, the comparison works even better than I expected it too

Yea yea, we get it, Sidney Crosby is pretty good and having an amazing year. Your argument for him having more points than Kane and Toews combined is weak, given that they both started slow, and right when Kane was starting to score more, he's been out a good week already with an injury. Plus you could say that based on the year Crosby is having this year so far, I'm sure he's got more points than a lot of people combined.

Hes almost outscoring the Blue Jackets over the last 19 too - if not for their 8-1 win over St Louis 16 games ago.

Edit: Outscored the Capitals last 15 games until their 16th most recent game too (6-4 win over Tampa)

Tied with Toronto's output their last 18 games - if they get shutout by Calgary he matches their team output.

Tied with Ottawa's output their last 19 games!!

And all of this is being conservative - Yahoo schedule calendar shows OTL's but not OT wins so some of these teams may be missing a real goal or two.

Not exactly the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders in terms of looks, but they are from Alberta so they have some leeway. Not sure why some many people are throwing fits about their existence, the team is balls-deep into rebuilding mode and it's expected to be at least 2 years before they're really competitive. This at least gives one more thing for the fans(albeit mostly the male fans) to look at, and one more legit professional avenue for young girls involved in cheerleading/dance to pursue in a different sport. Hopefully the Oilers give them a bit better treatment financially than the NFL teams give theirs.

His shitty start is exactly why he's not considered a top 5 goalie, there is a lot to be said about consistency. Quoting his last however many games is all well and good, he's been playing up to his potential during those games, but there is a reason stats are averaged throughout the season and throughout someone's career.
