Daryl Sutter steps down from his position as GM of the Flames, being replaced by Jay Feaster, which is incredibly fucking overdue. Wondering how long Feaster is going to hold on to Brent Sutter as coach.

Who has more work cut out for them, Dale Tallon or Jay Feaster?

Well, that news was fun to wake up to! Looks like there's going to be a lot of management/leadership shakeup, which I'm more than glad to see. While I'm happy Feaster is stepping in for now, I don't want him as our new GM. Yes, he helped Tampa win a cup in 03/04, but that was over 6 years ago and in the "old NHL". I'd rather have someone who understands how the game has changed since the lockout and runs the team accordingly. Albeit, from what I'm reading, Feaster only has till the end of the season definitely while next season seems to be undetermined at this time.

Ask me a month ago and I thought the Flames still had a chance at the playoffs. Sitting something like 4 points back of about 10 teams that sat between 3rd and 12th spot in the west. But now being something like 7 points back of just the 8th place team, needing a good 5+ game winning streak to get back in contention, and then consistently winning after that, while I have my hopes, my logical side is thinking it's not going happen this year. Here's to a new and better next season.

I've heard Feaster interviewed on the NHL Live! radio show often, he seems like he knows his shit, a lot moreso than Sutter at least(not saying much, I know). There isn't really a huge surplus of competent GM candidates out there unfortunately, I remember before even McGuire and Milbury were having there names tossed around, which is just fucking terrifying to me.

Either way once Brent's gone as well and Calgary can wash their hands of Sutter incompetence altogether they can at least start moving forward, but Feaster's probably going to need to just have a full-on garage sale and tank them into full-on rebulding mode by trading for some draft picks. They have almost nothing in terms of picks/prospects coming up thanks to Daryl...I think Brent Seabrook's brother is on their farm team but from what I've read he's not really close to as good as his older brother.

I wonder what this will mean for all the Iginla trade rumors. Gonna be interesting to see if he's moved to a contender. I'd love to see him on the Caps but unfortunately a winger is the last thing we need, and I'm sure Feaster would ask for Carlson or one of our goalies.

idk about Iginla but I saw some Dwayne Roloson to the Caps rumors that honestly sounded kinda badass, dude's playing out of his fucking mind atm and I bet he'd go nuts on a legitimate Cup chance.

Yea, last night was back to the old sharks. Play decent for 40 minutes, shit up the place for the last 20. I don't even remember the last time i've seen a game go 0-0 into the third and then lose 4+ to 0

They played maybe decent in the second period and for a minute or two in the 1st. At one point the shots were 15-1 in favor of the kings. Only Niemi played well for the first two periods. But he fell apart in the third, especially with the Sturm goal.

Edit: That last Dustin Brown goal was fucking awesome.

See that sounds great for right now, but then next season we're right back where we started with the Neuvirth/Varlamov debate. Sooner or later GMGM and BB need to figure out who "their guy" is and based on our last three playoff series I'd say it's Varly or bust.

Everyone says we're a "win now" team but the only key players that stand to become UFAs this summer are Semin, Laich and Knuble. And I'd bet we bring two of them back next season. (Guess which two...) Worst case scenario is we go into '12-'13 with only a handful of our core under contract, but Ovie and Backstrom are locked up through 2020.

Seriously though, both were very high on prospects lists, the difference being that Neuvirth won two Calder Cups while Varly was jockeying with Theodore. I honestly don't care who they run with, we're gonna live and die based on the ability to score goals in bunches (inb4Umberger).
