Again, to be clear: If Lupul is on the roster for 40 or more games in 2012-13 with the Leafs, Toronto gets a 4th-round pick in 2013. If he’s NOT on Leafs roster for 40 or more games, Toronto gets a 6th-rounder from Anaheim.

In other words, if Lupul is not with the team in 2013, buried in the minors, or on LTI (which removes the contract from cap), the leafs arent paying the penalty they should be for two years of Jake Gardiner. We're financing Gardner's minor career with Lupul's bloated salary, with a coin flip pick as insurance.

And Lupul is... okay. Was a 20 goal scorer some years ago (is 27), but he's suffered from DiPietro disease ever since and hasn't played much. And no matter how much pressure was on Beauchemin, you have to consider he averaged something like 24 min, and was called to play tough minutes with phaneuf. So short term we definitely will feel the loss. With mitchell on waivers, I bet burke is aiming for cap trades
