Never been a fan of Kaberle. But deal seems fair for both sides. Boston getting another d-man and Leafs finally admitting that they have 0 chance @ the playoffs.

I'm honestly surprised at the Anderson deal. 1 bad season and he's out, and especially to Ottawa. If Anderson bounces back, a steal for Ottawa. Mike Fisher got some tang last night. Takes a puck to the face and scores a goal. Carrie looked happy when they zoomed in on her. Lol.

Burke took Beauchemin, Versteeg, and Kaberle, and turned it into
Two 1st rounders, prospects Colborne and Gardiner, Joffrey Lupul (who looks like he could play with kessel. And that's worth something), a 3rd rounder, a 2nd or 3rd conditional if Kaberle resigns with boston (i think, still rumor mill'd) and a conditional 4th or 6th in 2013.

Not too bad. You've already got a 1st round pick and a prospect, and Burke has the stones to ask "...and what if he resigns?" What a guy.

Boston needs Kaberle on their PP unit something bad. Kaberle has 38 points this season with the Leafs, and BOS currently has Lucic at the high point feeding Chara (which is a waste of a Lucic).

Edit: Scout ranking puts Colborne's potential at 1C or 2C, depending who you ask. 21 yrs old, 55GP with 26 pts in his rookie AHL year. Has been buried in AHL Providence. Drafted 16th overall in 2008. He's never thrown his weight around at the professional level, and is still very raw, so something to look at going forward.

Andy "Dennis" MacQuaid has been playing well enough that Stuart became expendable, and a cap move. Peverly is a lot like Wheeler, except he actually scores points.
I like the Karberle move. The deal gets sweeter for Toronto if Kaberle resigns in Boston, or the make the finals.

Tor now has $24M, plus Kaberle's contract, in cap room. Tor has a history of overpaying for free agents. You better believe we're in the running for richards this summer.

Kaberle was going to be a UFA this summer anyway, who Burke had allegedly said he would not resign. We overpay for Kessel, Bos overpays for a rent-a-player, and if Kaberle resigns we get... well Boston's 2nd rounder, which is as coin flip as it gets.
Last summer, it's confirmed a western team was offering a 1st rounder for Kaberle + something else, Burke said no. So that paid off.

Colborne's at best going to be a good player. He's no star, else he'd be in the NHL at 21.

But it's still a win-win deal. If this is just a rental, and Kaberle comes back to Toronto, Bos overpayed for a rental. If Kaberle stays in Boston, we got coin flips aplenty, and it's more than we would have got last year. Kaberle's not even an all-star defenceman - he was assigned Toronto's spot, because every team has to send one. Boston needs a puck moving D-man anyway.

So here's to hoping Kaberle hoists the cup, because the other caveat on the 2nd rounder is... Bos making the finals. If Bos makes the cup final we get a 2nd rounder, regardless of Kaberle.
