I have to say that I think the Pens overpaid. With the wealth of defensemen the Pens have it makes sense to move one of them. I think if anyone would have been tradebait it would have been Despres. Hopefully Neal is able to progress to his potential rather than regress like he has this season. I'm sure Shero isn't done moving the pieces yet. I could see them making a run at Kovalev, but if Ottawa is expecting anything more than a late round draft pick, it's not going to happen.

Actually, in a statement, it seems like Shero was pursuing Niskanen, at least that's how I'm reading it.

“For both sides, for them getting a puck-moving guy and us getting a power forward and defenseman, it made sense for both teams,” general manager Ray Shero said.

“If I was ever going to (make this deal) it had to be for the right forward. I think we’ve found that in (Neal), a young, up-and-coming winger. His best days are ahead of him.

“Getting Matt Niskanen in the deal was important to us. … It’s hard to get defensemen at this time of year. We’re looking forward to having Matt join us. He’s a young guy, only 24 years old. He’s had some pretty good years so far in the NHL.”

In all seriousness, giving up 39 shots on goal to that dressed roster seems a little high... but a win is a win. Can't wait for the replay when I get home. That's two shutouts in a row for Neuvy against the Pens.
