Yea Florida and St. Louis... Total firesales. Weiss and Vokoun are the core duo anyway... if they go, so do florida. I was surprised to learn Florida's GM is the same guy who turned the Blackhawks around, so if he wants to rebuild from the bottom up, who's anyone to say no?

If you're building from the bottom up I imagine you would start by actively shopping your 34 year old pending-UFA star goaltender.

No one wanted him. All the playoff teams feel set in goal and he's got a 5.7mil cap hit.

I think paying more than $3m/year for a goalie is going to be out of style for a pretty good while going forward outside of guys like Luongo who already have a long contract set in stone. Getting two kinda-above-average guys for $2m~ each and doing a 1a/1b deal seems to be the new hotness.

This is... not entirely true I feel. I feel like there are a lot of young goaltenders or goaltenders who have only been in the league for a few seasons at the moment, and thus are still on their ELC or haven't proven themselves enough for a longer term/more lucrative contract. In the next few seasons I am guessing guys like Rinne and Price will get decent raises, with a bunch of other guys having similar chances if they can keep it up like Niemi, Pavelac, Bobrovsky, etc.
