Some Caps fans have said that Ovi has been playing through a not-so-minor injury all season, which made sense given his point totals but also might just be an excuse. Either way I find it hard to call him out on speculation that he might be lying, when he has done so much for the team over the past few seasons.
Meanwhile the Wings seem to going the wrong way headed into the playoffs, lets see if they can inspire some confidence in the last 9 games.
I'd hope someone of Ovechkin's stature wouldnt be stupid enough to play majority of the season with a "not-so-minor injury" just to risk having it cumulate come playoff time.
He almost killed himself and Mike Green while riding a cart around the arena, I am not sure it is possible to take a guess at what he is smart enough to not do.
This is why I think it's a call from Boudreau, McPhee and the training staff. Honestly I think Ovie would probably play with torn tendons and broken bones. I don't think he's been injured all year, unless you count a beer gut as an injury. What's troubling is he's been at his best lately, in his last 18 games he had 9 G (3 on the PP) 13 A and a few vintage highlight reel moves to boot. So either the suits told him he's sitting, or in the midst of his best stretch since mid-November he's finally got some common sense about taking care of his body leading up to April... hm...
Was hoping for something in the mold of:

I can never get enough Onrait!
1. /high fives Bregor
2. I will take the stolen points from the win last night. Caps had no business being up 3 in the first, and even less business hanging on for the win. Especially considering how we were bullied all night by the Flyers. But I'm telling you, there is something different about the way this team is playing lately. Last season we would have lost that game 8-5. Earlier this season we would have lost 7-3. For whatever reason, the team is much tougher. It makes me happy.
3. Bregor is right about OV finally starting to play well recently. The end-to-end rush in OT to beat the Islanders comes to mind. I don't think it was an injury this season that caused his numbers to be down. I think it was actually a combination of the letdown/exhaustion from Russia losing, and a lack of preparation in the offseason. He came in to camp very heavy, and just looked sluggish all year. Hopefully the rest does him some good. He's also still 6th in points, btw.
4. It's impossible for me to feel an ounce of sympathy for anyone who roots for a Philly team or wears a Philly uniform, but I admit I felt kind of bad for Boucher in the shootout. Yikes.
Ask and you shall receive!

So the Caps' marketing/merchandise people are pretty awesome.

Was reading something that Ovies numbers might be down this year because hes committed to playing defense and back checking more alla Yzerman when he changed from pure offense to solid 2-way center.
What the hell did that hit to stay out? lol
That theory about OV gets floated here, too, but it doesn't really explain how shitty he has been on the power play, too. The Caps offense as a whole is down drastically, so his numbers have followed suit. He definitely didn't seem as explosive earlier in the year, which looked like fatigue to me but I'm obviously no expert.
He did interviews today where he seemed like he was in a good mood. It can sometimes be hard to figure out what that big dumb animal is saying, but I think he was trying to convey that this has been nagging him for a couple of months but the team was surging and hunting playoff position. With the Southeast pretty much sewn up, it was okay to finally rest it. FWIW, Boudreau says OV could play by late next week. I think that's an important distinction. Nobody talks about Mike Green because I think that injury scared the shit out of the franchise. With OV, it's just like "oh, he will be fine." Very different tone.
Also, I didn't see this posted yet. Pretty awesome. Big crazy guy from Happy Gilmore on the right (you knew that).

Puck bounced on its edge. I've also seen bounces where it's clearly going wide and then it alters direction as it bounces and goes in.
That's a crazy ass bounce.
