Pretty sure high sticking is still high sticking, regardless of a visor or not. Even if it "grazed", its still clear cut in the rule book, unless its from a follow through on a shot/pass.

I know the rule... but I'm sure we've all seen a lot worse go uncalled. To call that penalty in a 3-0 game... ?

Actually this weekend is brutal for me, working nights with one TV in the office and three things to watch most nights (two tourney games and hackey.) Also read today that Green is probably toast until the playoffs, and even then he's not guaranteed back. I don't mind 27-74 55-6 23-4 but I'd like to see a PP unit of 52-6-8-19-28 one of these days.

I screw around on here a lot, but for real - I'd just like to acknowledge a player who's playing out the final weeks of his career so people can appreciate his talent level while he's still around.

Teemu Selanne

I mentioned to a friend yesterday during the Pens intermission that I hoped the Ducks made the playoffs this year cause they have a 40G/40A/100PIM player (Perry), a cancer survivor (Saku Koivu), and Teemu Selanne, who not only is an obvious point-per-game player for his career, but THIS SEASON is averaging over a point per game - AT AGE 40.

Later that evening Selanne scores with 5 seconds left to tie it against Dallas. Just, wow. Hes a Stanley Cup Champion, Calder Trophy winner, Bill Masterson winnner, multiple time winner of Rocket Richard Trophy / goal scoring race, 10-time All-Star, holder of several NHL records as well as being the all-time Olympic men's ice-hockey scorer.

Most of what Selanne's done has occurred during the deadpuck Devils / Devils imitators generation. Just as remarkably, hes as strong now as he was at 20. A lot of elderly players accept leadership roles with less on-ice demands like Mike Modano and Mark Recchi who play on lower lines and 2nd power play units and pace for 30-45 points. Selanne is averaging over a point per game, sees 1st power play unit time (and only stays on the 2nd line due to Olympian/All-Star-caliber RW Bobby Ryan being on the same team), and has 70 points this season with 8 games to go - and thats despite missing 9 games this year! All of this at age 40. Unfortunately, the media is reporting with almost garunteed certainty that Selanne plans to hang it up at the end of the season.

Selanne overall is 14th all-time in goal scoring and 30th all-time in points with a reasonable chance to move up to 27th before the season ends. Most of us remember him from our old school video games though, if not for our visions of him and Paul can't look at a TV Kariya. The Ducks rival only the Canucks as my favorite non-Penguins team and Selanne is my favorite Duck. No one can knock him for anything - hes got a Stanley Cup, he's never played dirty, hes never started trash talking in the media. Its sad realizing this awesome player whos been dominating the game since I was 5 years old is about to retire. If this his last season, be it in 8 games in April or after losing 4 games to a team in the Stanley Cup playoffs, its a loss to the hockey world that only Nicklas Lidstrom could upstage.

While I could sing praises to Lidstrom for ages, Selanne is more impressive to me in a way this season. Lidstrom has always played a game that isn't horribly demanding on his body- it relies on good or perfect positioning, good stickwork, and a knowledge of the game rather than pure strength, hard nosed board work etc. Selanne however doesn't really have the luxury of choosing whether or not he gets physical, he has to deal with whatever defender he is playing against and what style they want to play against him. Despite this he is still putting up a beast of a season.

Also I don't take the end of his post as a troll, rather him saying that both Nick and Teemu retiring would be huge hits to hockey, but if they both retire people will focus disproportionately on Nick, and Teemu's retirement probably would not receive the attention it deserves.

I read it more like only those two guys retiring would matter. Mike Modano, anyone?

Aye, I didn't mean for it to be a troll. Like the introduction to why I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention - simply that his final season, one of his best too, is being overlooked and as a retirement, if it goes up against Lidstroms, it will be almost completely ignored. Theres a potential if the stars align for an epic HOF class down the road.

Something tells me though that Brodeur's ego won't let him go quietly into the night and he'll stick around until even the NJ Devils won't have him.

But Selanne is a fan-favorite for everyone around the league and its borderline impossible to hate him for anything. Hes just go nice, mild-mannered, hard-working, and talented. Most of us here are in our 20's / early 30's too, which means when I write this, I know I'm writing it to fellow hockey fans who would've grown up watching him at least all through their teenage years.

wow, refs in the caps v sens game are horrible. Apparently you can kick a puck 2-3x and then run over the goalie and it's a good goal? Plus they pulled a Sen out of the p.box earlier after a high stick that drew blood, saying it wasn't a penalty.

Ferraro hosts a morning sports radio show in Vancouver. He also lives in BC as well. Not sure he's not annoying though. Lol.
