2 Points won't be enough if we win out in Regulation and OT, because we own the second tiebreaker over you guys. If we're both at 97 points in the end, and equal in RoW, we'll take the seed.

It's all dependent on Stars not shitting the bed too. At this point I'm not very hopeful. Fucking War room.

Dallas can get at most 97 points, and Chicago rests at 95 at the moment. If Dallas wins out in regulation/OT they will have 38 ROW, Chicago currently has 37. If Chicago goes 1-1-0 vs the Wings and Dallas wins out, they will both sit at 38 ROW, and it will go to the next tiebreaker, which is head to head, which Dallas wins at 3-1-0. So really Chicago still has a magic number of 3 (points earned and points left unearned in games by Dallas) if I didn't overlook anything.

Well, Stars have 2 vs the Avs and 1 vs the Jackets and the Hawks have 2 vs the Red Wings who still have something to play for.

My prediction: Chicago wins the first game in Detroit, then traps their way to OT in Chicago on the last game to secure the most anticlimatic playoff berth ever. Dallas loses their last game later in the evening vs MIN 40-2, sulking away into obscurity.

Dallas can catch PHX too if they win out and PHX loses both games to SJ in regulation. They can catch Nashville too but they have the Jackets and Blues left.

Dallas cannot catch Phoenix here is why

Phoenix got 97 and Dallas got 91 if PHX loose all their games and Dallas wins theirs they are both at 97

But here is the catch

The NHL decided on a new tie breaker for the end of the season which is not in the stats you normally see

IF 2 team have the same number of points at the end of the season the way the winner will be decided is the number of victories without shootout

Exemple

Dallas gets 33 victories total with 10 of them in shootout
Phoenix gets 32 victories total with 9 of them in shootout

Phoenix will finish 6 and Dallas 7. ( of course that is if both of them gets the same number of points)

So you have to count how many vics Dallas got without shutout wins

That is an advantage that the Habs have.

If Buffalo and NYR finish with the same number of points, Habs will finish first because we have more victories without counting shootout vics.

You're wrong. PHX has 37 ROW with 2 games remaining, Dallas has 35 with 3 remaining. If PHX loses all in regulation and Dallas wins all in Regulation or Overtime, they'd be tied at 97 points, but Dallas would have 38 ROW while PHX would still be at 37.

PHX's magic number is 1.
ANA's is 2.
Hawks is 3.

While 20 of the League's best players were in New York for a preseason promotional tour, the NHL's Board of Governors gathered at a nearby hotel to approve a new tiebreaker system for the standings. Starting with the 2010-11 season, the tiebreaker among teams with the same total of points in the standings will go to the club with the most regulation and overtime wins -- no longer including shootout wins in the decision.

"All of our research indicates overwhelmingly that the fans do like the shootouts," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said. "There has been an increase [in shootouts] in the last year, after consistent numbers in the four prior years, but one year does not an issue make."


So like Is said If Phoenix finish with 38 wins 97 points but and they had 2 wins in shootout they will finish like if they had 36 wins

While if Dallas finish with 40 wins and 97 points and they had like 10 wins in shootout they will finish like if they had 30wins so Phoenix will win

But that is ONLY if they finish with the same number of points

If all win in reg

Final stat

If loose all in reg

Torres should have gotten more. The NHL is too soft on those hits. They need to start hitting players with 10,15,20 game and Season Long/Entire Playoffs suspensions if they want to stop them and it shouldn't matter if the player was injured or not.

Torres clearly aimed for Eberle's head and even followed through on it AND knew it was dirty, since he dropped the gloves immediately.

Give the 2-5 game suspensions for the more accidental hits but for shit like that hit or the Cooke hits, they should get hit hard.

There have been hits that have been much worse and warranted stiffer penalties. 2 regular season games and 2 Playoff games is fine if the NHL uses this as a jumping board for future elbows to the head. 2 Playoff games ends up hurting the entire team rather then the plaintiff, as paycheques no longer apply in the playoffs.

The league's rule of thumb regarding the worth of playoff suspensions is each game would equal roughly 1.5-2 regular season games. So for Torres this is really a 6 gamer, and that's...

Well, it's not a hard suspension. But if Van's opening against chicago, and it seems they will, that 2 games carries some significance.

There are actually a fair amount of former-figure skaters in the NHL. I remember one guy commenting on how it builds skate control and balance, and how it eventually helped him dodge and withstand checks in the bigs.

It's still a gay sport though.
