Rick Rypien suspended indefinately pending a hearing with Bettman. I think they are going to make an example out of the guy and for good reason. He let his emotions get the best of him and he took it out on a fan who was doing what he was suppose to... cheering his team on. I'm going to say they suspend him 30 games but it should be 50.
Fuck you. It was a prediction and an opinion. Most suspensions come from doing things on the ice in an improper manner or taking it to far. When things start involving things that should never happen (fans getting attacked) then the NHL should crack its whip and set an example.
And it would be tied for the longest suspension.
Thank you for proving my point. You think it should be 50 games, which would be the longest suspension in history all for shoving a fan. That's some serious moral outrage BS from someone who up until now hasn't shown any interest in this thread. But hey if you want to continue to argue semantics that's fine, whatever helps you feel less ignorant.
Im going to guess 10 games max. Max if they deem he did abuse the linesmen.
Yes, in my personal opinion, to preserve integrity and make this PR nightmare go away, I think it should be 50 games but I don't think it will be. I didn't realize I had to meet some dick sucking quota to comment on the issue. If I missed that in the original post or forum rules, please highlight that procedure for me. I'm not lacking any knowledge or information so I'm not sure how my opinion is ignorant. Oh I get it. Because you disagree, that makes me ignorant and "an idiot." Gotcha! You really flexed your intelligent muscle there, squirt.
Your opinion is ignorant because you're calling for a huge suspension for an altercation in which no one was hurt. Was Rypien an idiot? Absolutely. Does he deserve a suspension? Again, absolutely. But if you want to give an opinion that he deserves the biggest suspension in history and will probably get 30 games when most level headed commentators are speculating on a range somewhere close to what Jornna is predicting then yes I am going to call you ignorant because your opinion is based more on emotion and a desire to protect "integrity" then the facts of the event.
Edit: Forum flame war aside Puck daddy has a story about the brother of the guy involved. Apparently the guy Rypien went at was clapping and said "Way to be a professsional" to Rypien. lol

So someone has to be hurt for them to be severely punished? Hypothetically, if Rypien pulled out a knife and lunged at the fan then it shouldn't affect the length of the suspension because "no one got hurt" right? You might want to check the definition of ignorant before you go tossing it around. Basing my opinion on "emotion and a desire" (accordinging to you) doesn't fit the bill in this situation seeing as I based my opinion on the video evidence and situation alone.
There's a huge chance that the "fan" that was attack was a minor. If that happens to be the case, then I think he should be canned for the remainder of the season for attacking a helpless kid who was merely clapping. Sorry I don't have a level headed commentator background to lift the "ignorance" off that opinion.
Why would a hockey player have a knife on them during a game?
Stupid example is stupid.
Further More, Chris Simon was suspended for 25 games for hitting Ryan Hollweg in the face with his stick then was suspended for 30 games for stepping on the back of Jarkko Ruutu's leg.
What makes you think what Rypein did warrants 50 games?
Clearly, he took his skate off and used that as a weapon lol.
Happy Gilmore'd
Oops, wrong movie, lol.
So, I'm sorta nervous for tonight's game with the Hawks and Canucks. It's either gonna be a good game that's similar to their playoff games, a lot of intensity and physical play, or the Canucks are gonna come out super motivated to rebound from last night's ass whuppin, and completely run the Hawks outta the building. My money though, is the game is going to start off strong for the Hawks, by the second period the Canucks will be in control and then the third period is going to be the Hossa show again.
