There is the status effect Potency which increases critical hit rate.
There are the Black Mage T1 Merits: Element Potency, which is a +2 MAB bonus.
The Blue Mage T1 Merits: Physical Potency increases the accuracy of physical blue magic by 2 points.

    (I think that's what happens.)

in other words, potency means a lot of things in FFXI, and I don't think elemental magic was ever changed to naturally crit, so it seems unlikely that they'd add a spell to be used in strict conjunction w/ M.Crit gear but yknow

At the very least are the -ja spells stronger than -gaIV's? Are they the functional equivalent of -ga5's but with this subsequent casting damage bonus?

We don't have -gaIV's at our disposal.

It looks like your third set got the bonus also, and a thundersday penalty on all 3 at once.

It's 5%, need to find a target with more HP to test if it lasts beyond a second spell. Odds are you didn't recast fast enough, this was done with alacrity.

Ignore stonega (even though 5% lines up), I'm not entirely sure I didn't hit Uggalepih macro automatically for the 2nd one. Waterja: 1949 then 2045

    Large so spoilered.
    Spoiler: show

    Edit, Test2, again large. Alacrity > Waterja(1902) > Sleep > Alacrity > Waterja(1995) > Sleep > Waterja(2091)
    Spoiler: show

Looks like it adds 5% of base every time then, rather than (DMG + LAST*0.05) it's (DMG + BASE*0.05*NUMBER_OF_RECENT_CASTS)

my bet: more MAB but, round 1 and 5 mobs pop with one lvl higher and your mab wasn't caped on ek while it was capped for others

mab doesn't cap, you can do more damage to a lvl 0 bee with more mab. int caps.

Based on Radec's testing it seems there's a -ja potency term calculated before MAB, and each successive cast causes it to go up by .05. With a bit more testing should be fairly easy to see where it sits in the calculation~

Doing a a few more kills now, and I'm almost fairly certain it's a timed thing.(I think someone mentioned that as a possibility in this thread) You need to get the next -ja spell off within a certain amount of time after the last one.

I'm think about 30 seconds, approximately.

Just did a few more tests with Waterja, was Windsday.

    Waterja1:

    Soldier - 1207
    Soldier - 1207
    Worker - 1209
    Worker - 1209
    Worker - 1209
    Worker - 1209

    Waterja2:

    Soldier - 1267
    Soldier - 1267
    Worker - 1268
    Worker - 1268
    Worker - 1268
    Worker - 1268

Fairly certain that was unresisted since all the numbers are exactly the same on all the corresponding mobs. Do these numbers correspond to the .05 that your talking about?

    EDIT:

Gonna post a set of 3 also to help w/ number crunching.

    Waterja1:

    Soldier - 1499
    Worker - 1510
    Worker - 1510

    Waterja2:

    Soldier - 1575
    Worker - 1587
    Worker - 1587

    Worker - 1249

    Worker - 1249

To explain the discrepancy between this set, and the 1st set of 6, my Cream Puff wore off w/o me realizing. and I nuked this set with no food.

You'd need to tell us how much MAB you were using, and if you had any staff bonus too~

Same gear as in the opening post. Just this time it was Windsday, not Thundersday.

    +39 MAB(including Sorc Ring & Morg Set bonus), Neptune's Staff., & 89+56 INT( -7 for the 3rd set. <_<)

AF3+1 legs don't appear to enhance potency, I'd guess either MAcc or longer time between spells. Will pin it down daytime someday.
