You can't zoom from 3rd person to first person now... need to press V for that. Not that anyone should be using first person view anyway.

I actually enjoyed FFXIII but I know I'm in a tiny minority. The story got pushed forwards for the first 25+ hours of that game, which while sometimes detrimental to the gameplay, actually helped me personally get more absorbed in the narrative.
Of course, I'm also of the opinion the ffviii is a much better game than ffvii, so I'm obviously not in any position to take a stand on what is good gaming.
I understand that the pace of ffxiii couldn't possibly work in a persistetn world mmo like ffxiv, but I can't help but think that se could have upped the pace of storytelling just a little - I still don't see why had to get to rank 10 just to run around town a bit for a few more cutscenes.
I consider it a flop when development costs overtake returned revenue from game sales and extended subscriptions. Yes, FFXI was very niche and I enjoyed it a lot. BUT when you make a game 7 years later and everyone expects it to be like FFXI but better and then make it worse than FFXI, FFXIV falls into a bad kind of niche.
Game is amazing looking, I'll give them that. But 1 quest per nation? No mailboxes, AH, chocobos, airships, alternate activities besides leves, forcing you to level up every craft just to repair your gear, pvp elements, storyline and problems with internal game mechanics? This game is lacking a lot of things that should be in an MMO nowadays. People in Beta said "STFU , this is beta. Everything will be better at retail". Guess what? It's not. Hardware mouse and fixing some lag issues does not justify the $70 I paid for this game. And I shouldn't have to wait months for it to get good. Nobody deserves that, especially SE. The game was put out too early and their player base will suffer because of it.
Wait what? I thought FFXIII was easily the most popular and well received FF since PSX ones. Not to mention that SE gained a ton of money from that game alone during the last year.
I don't think FFXIV will be a flop, instead I think that SE will gradually fix its flaws depending on the playerbase's response.
Right now it's plain not fun to play if it's anything like the open beta but I guess they have many improvements in store.
I was under the impression that most people hated FFXIII. They moaned about there being no towns, no sidequests, and that it was all pretty corridors for the first 30 hours and they never got to see the world open up because it was "too boring".
Personally I loved it. I loved the combat system, and the vaguely tactical nature of the paradigm system. But I always thought I was in the minority. I know it SOLD well. But I thought people didn't like it. I'm happy if I'm wrong, because the storytelling in FFXIII was a triumph of pacing in my opinion.
The complainers are always the loudest, unfortunately. I don't think a message board is ever an accurate cross-section of the customer-response of any title.
Pretty much. I wasn't a super mega ultra fan of 10, but it was by far the best received after 7.
13, from what I understand, has a ridiculous plot that only begins to make sense more than half-way through.
Saying complainers are always the loudest has the same validity as me saying FFX's supporters were the loudest despite it being a talking animal and a dance routine away from a Disney fucking movie. FFXIII's sales could easily be attributed to the audience getting what they really want, flash and angst.
Also, FUCK NOMURA.

Ahhh..yes FFX, proving that it is possible to fail on both english and japanese dubs in the same game.
Wait, what thread am i in
It's called spontaneous conversation. It happens when human beings find points of similarity and common interest and want to discuss them - that's the actual meaning of "forum" by the way: an outlet for public discussion. Do you have anything new to add on topic? Or are you merely self-perpetuating that which you posted to complain about?
Back on topic: I've not exactly played a lot these last few days, mostly due to disappointment at there being nothing really to do except grind, but I have to ask, have there been any changes to the anima system? Because while I've barely logged in, I'm down to 42 anima and I've not exactly been using it a lot. Any numbers on the supposedly altered anima regen rate?
I'd definitely say that would be "using it a lot." Learn to share teleports, use legs, death-return, et cetera.
It took me all but the last 3~4 days to run out of Anima during Open Beta, and I had been admittedly reckless with it. You'll eventually learn to only use it when you're a) in a big hurry to meet people or b) need to get back to your town and don't have 20+ minutes to walk across Thanalan and the Black Shroud + take the ferry. Also, Anima costs are about~
To any Camp/City/Aetherial Gate within the region: 4
To any Camp/City/Aetherial Gate in a different region: 6
From an Aetherial Gate to the nearest Camp: 1
From a Camp to a nearby Aetherial Gate: 1
Thus, you'd save a precious 2 Anima by hoofin' it just to the edge of the correct region, then spending just 4 Anima to get to the correct Aetheryte/Gate.
I guess maybe it is. I dunno, I just don't like the idea of running through a wasteland completely devoid of any life a particularly interesting thing to do. If there was stuff that I could kill on the way, maybe there'd be less desire to cut out all the boredom. But I ran for close to eight minutes today (I timed it as an experiment) and saw not a single creature to kill. Nothing moves. The animation of plants and bushes is so subtle as to be unnoticable. There are no critters running around, no birds in the sky (despite them screeching in the ambient soundtrack). I know FFXI didn't have these things either, but it had more variety in terms of scenery and terrain.
I thought anima was supposed to be for casual players. I'm casual. I haven't invested a whole lot of time into FFXIV. I've barely done anything yet. I dislike the concept of death-returns - but I guess without XI's xp loss it should be a reasonable (if daft) thing to do to keep the costs of anima down. But as it is, even with a very casual play schedule, I'm bleeding anima faster than it regens, only from doing simple stuff like warping between the cities to pick up leves and then to the relevant camps to do them. Otherwise its a 15-30 minute run for ANYTHING in the game, and nothing to do inbetween.
From Gridania to Ul'dah takes approximately 45 minutes. From Gridania to the Ferry Port takes slightly longer. From Gridania to Limsa takes almost an hour. From Ul'dah to Gridania or Limsa takes roughly 20-30 minutes. These are estimates based on times from a couple of days ago. I might actually log in and test this properly just for some hard numbers.
