    Retail: ffxivboot.exe crash on start

Anyone have any idea what would be causing this? I can open the config fine. It worked in beta. Beta is indeed uninstalled.

do a complete uninstall + open regedit.exe and delete any registry keys it leaves behind.

same here. 'ff has stopped working'. I know little of computers so have no shot at fixing it. Brand new computer. Collectors edition game. Totally worthless atm. Chat support unavailable on release day. Marvelous.

Make sure your Directx is updated to at minimum 9c. This would cause problems for all of you that havent done their updates. If you did your updates then your problem may be in a corrupted driver so it wouldnt hurt to reupdate your directx

I've been looking around trying to find a forum that might be able to help me with my ffxivboot.exe crashing. I have the CE version of FFXIV and I haven't been able to play it at all. Does anyone have a working copy of the ffxivboot.exe for the retail version? If so, could I please get a copy?

    I'd appreciate it greatly.

Thanks for uploading that file, Sruon. I tried it out. I clicked on Play to launch the game and it would act like it'll work then I once again get the message windows has encountered a problem and is shutting down.

I did another troubleshoot and Windows still tells me that ffxivboot.exe is incompatible with this version of Windows. I have Windows 7 Home 64 version. I have tried running it in compatibility mode as Windows Vista with service pack 2 and Windows XP service pack 3. Still nada....

Perhaps my laptop isn't sufficiently powerful enough. I thought I'd try to play it on my laptop while I return my new motherboard and get a new one. The motherboard I got came dead on arrival. I had to do some further testing on it to ensure it wasn't my other parts that was the culprit.

The laptop I have is a brand new Sony Vaio. I've had it for maybe 4 months.

Intel Core 2 Duo [email protected] 2.20Ghz
    4 GB of DDR3 expandable to 8
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Display adaptor is a Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family

I would think I could run the game on this laptop at minimum settings. Or the game should say you don't have sufficient (insert x here) to play this game.

My laptop is much worse than yours and its pretty fluent when it runs it. With a laptop that new it doesn't make sense either because I know for some people XIV has been dissapearing after they hit play only to re-pop seconds later. Try the good ol uninstall > reinstall and make sure you delete anything its left behind!

Nothing beats this company. How can they be this crappy... Can't even launch this thing on a new computer using Windows-64 with drivers and directx updated.

Well, just got the update from the game but my laptop still can't successfully play it. The ffxivboot.exe is still incompatible and all of my drivers are up to date. I've tried unstalling/reinstalling as you suggested, Exiled and still no joy. I did it twice and I still get the windows has stopped working bleh bleh message.

So much for getting an early start by buying the CE version of the game.

A few more days and my new motherboard should arrive. Once I get my motherboard and put everything together, it better be able to run this damn game.

Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H AM3 AMD 890GX HDMI Sata 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD motherboard. The board has an onboard video card which is an ATI Radeon HD 4290 which I'll not use. I'll use my nVidia Geforce GTX 460 instead. It has 1 gig ram dedicated to it.
    AMD Phenom II x6 1090T AM3 black edition Thuban 3.2 Ghz 6 x 512kb L2 cache 6mb L3 cache Socket AM3 125W six-core
4 Gb DDR3 expandable up to 16 Gb

I have Windows XP Pro or Home...I forget. I think it is 64 bit. I don't remember.

If I still can't run it on this.. I don't know what to think...

I have a similar crash when I start the game if both afterburner and mumble (voice chat) are running. Try closing other programs, might help. Including things in the tray and unlisted items.

Hi, I saw this thread late. FFXIV has issues running on certain multi-core machines. Try the following:

    start /affinity 1 ffxivboot.exe

If that fixes your problem, then wait for ffxivgame.exe to launch. Once it does, go into task manager, right click on the process and choose Set Affinity. Make sure all the cores are enabled. Then start the game.

You'll have to do this every time until a fix is released.

I'm not guaranteeing you aren't experiencing some OTHER crash with ffxivboot.exe, but this is absolutely a 100% fix for some people. Unfortunately this is one of the less common causes of ffxivboot.exe crashes, so don't be surprised if it doesn't fix it for you.
