    FFXIV updater freezes on launch.

I was able to finally install the game after using my external CD drive (I was getting the CRC errors). Everything went well until I went to start the game. The FFXIV downloader comes up, and says it's starting, then just freezes and won't download the update. When I go to cancel it, it says "cancelling" and then just freezes. I have to go into Task Manager to stop it.

I played open beta without any problems whatsoever, didn't even crash outta the game but once or twice. I have a ATI Radeon 4850 HD with CCC 10.8 drivers, Windows Vista 64 bit. Not sure what the problem could be so I'm looking for some advice. I've tried running as administrator, I believe all the appropriate ports are open. Any one have any ideas?

its the curse of the software mouse, did the same for me but it does actually update just has huge lag spikes. Freezes for a while then all of a sudden shoots a little then freezes up again. I just minimized it and left it alone till the login screen eventually showed up. Hardware mouse doesn't start until it updates the first time.

Thanks for the response, but I think I should clarify. The updater begins to start up, but then freezes before it ever downloads anything. Then when I try to end the program, it freezes and won't respond. I'm not sure it's a lagspike, as it never does anything to start with. It just hangs waiting to initialize. I let it go for about an hour, and still nothing.

Mine is stuck on the initializing network message, opened all the ports etc. Also running Windows Vista 64 bit. Updated will freeze when you try to close it also, haven't installed on my XP box yet.

Turned off UDP in settings and it worked.. so it's a router issue I guess.. but I did open the ports up.

I encountered this as well. Did a workaround by doing the following:
Disabled UPnP (My router doesn't like it too well)
Open the port that I wrote in the config app.

-> This went on to "super slow download".
So I grabbed the .torrent file in my user folder (C:\Users\XXX\Final Fantasy XIV on Win 7, red dialog box for top hex-named folder, blue for 2nd hex-named folder), downloaded it using my own client (Azureus), downloaded in 5 min, copied it back to the user folder (patch folder) and re-started the SE updater.

The 2nd patch ran ok without the workaround.
