my mom's school (she teaches in ct) required the math teachers to teach this way a few years back.
And not as a supplement, they wanted kids to only learn this way.
I think they've since gone back to the old system.
That is the dumbest shit I've ever seen.
Luckily I seem to have dodged the Lattice math bullshit when I was in high school. It's been 13 years + but at least we didn't deal with the creationism bullshit Texas is shoving down kid's throats. We actually learned science and had a decent history course that kinda kept religions neutral.
And this is why I hate texas. Everything is fine except for this bullshit.
Why are America's protestants so much more conservative than their european counterparts?
Fantastic. I just started writing a paper for my holy roller English professor about historical censorship in the American education system. Willing to bet she'll try to censor my paper about censorship as we've already had some "discussions," about the textbooks from Texas. I'm sure this will be brought up tomorrow and she'll try to preach about how they're taking "appropriate steps to bring America back to it's roots."
Step 1: Find parchment
Step 2: Fold to pamphlet
Step 3: Re-write Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" and replace all challenges of King George's authority to a challenge of Texas' authority to rewrite history.
Step 4: Get out of class really early for the day.
Should be good for a laugh.
I would say just Texas but Oklahoma is just as fucked up as them, they just have worse roads. I can't even speak to some of the people I used to know because of their welfare-4th tier unemployment -right wing loving- bible bullshit
I don't think creationism is nearly as bad as shit like glossing over the native american slaughter, the landgrab from mexico, the philippine-american war, or the general manner in which the US is always presented as heroic good-guys, righting wrongs around the world... when the truth is completely different.
Don't you mean re-write history?
While we won in the philippines, any mention of it is almost removed entirely from textbooks.
Go ask a high school kid what happened there at the end of the 1800's, see what they say.
When I finally fall off the deep end and become a serial killer, I'm moving to Texas.
I always hated on my Catholic private school once I got into High School. Then I learned about how much shittier it could have been thanks to Texas. Creationism was completely set aside at my school. What the fuck is this shit Texas.
Also, to take out religion from history books is tantamount to taking out evolution in biology books. Religion has long been a cultural phenomenon to study. You can say that it only focuses on wars...which is absolutely absurd on the publisher's part (if that were the case). Maybe you should take some actual history courses outside of your Gen Eds to get a good grasp on some of the social and cultural changes that religion forged through the centuries. Of course, I'm most interested in the architectural development due to rituals, customs, religion.
Fundamentalist Christians are fundamentalists. (I'm surprised they care about the Crusades having a bad image - lol. Thought they hated Catholics, even though it was pre-Reformation).
