Hey, If I'm wrong or ignorant, I'll admit it. (Although that does tie in to my earliest points!) Now to go learnificate.
Negative. I'll rue the day I fall for someone's roos.
apparently I came off as defending the texas school-board? lol
And yes, Isladar is fuck-worthy in this thread without a doubt. I mean uh RELIGION IS BAD ALWAYS AND SAYING THE WORD MAKES YOU WRONG
I always liked the thought of a comparative religion class in every school, public or not. Nothing makes religion look sillier than a careful analysis of the canon.
The reason people feel this way is because of what you stated, failed education system. From start to 9th~ grade history was nothing but remembering dates. Blah blah got shot on XXX in XXX, etc, etc. I HATED history until 10th~ grade when I had an amazing teacher who said fuck remembering dates, let me tell you about this! It was with such passion that i LOVED to sit there for 2hours a day and just listen to him. It was like watching a movie and i learned more during that semester then i did my entire school life.
Extreme americans* are freaking scary.
That, and WTF at the rise of these "9/11" events? those buildings could be built in like 2 months >_>
people would rather be afraid and angry than do anything for themselves...
I'm not sure.
Current political situation in my country :
Prerequisite knowledge : we have many more parties than in the US and a direct representation system, which means we always have a coalition leading the country - the current biggest party "only" has 17.4% of the votes in the chamber of representatives and 19.61% in the senate.
- Previous govt was working on (arguing about) a state reform. Said reform had lead the country into an impasse in 2007, but they were at it again.
- One party left the coalition govt, PM (himself a zealot and overall hateful individual) resigned over it and the govt was disbanded.
- New elections held early because of the former.
- The winning parties in the election can't find an agreement on the state reform because the singe biggest party (in votes) is now even worse than the previous one. Read : bunch of bigots, hating on and hated by at least 40% of the population, old nazi ties they desperately try to sweep under the rug.
- Previous "disbanded" govt is STILL in charge, but only has limited powers (it can only apply previous laws, not make new ones)... and we're currently supposed to lead Europe for 6 months.
In the last 3 years, we've spent more time without a govt than with.
So, yeah, from where I'm sitting, even creationists would be an improvement.
Hmm, never noticed any religious bias in my textbooks... hell of a lot of cultural bias, though. Probably because living in the rust belt and believing in a benevolent god are mutually exclusive. That, and the fact that I learned more about the world from Literature class than History class.
^ this
i refuse to read the OP. I will only tell miz to shut up, and to not forget just how close the state of texas actually is to you.
Yes, speaking with some perspective is unfortunately something a certain few atheists lack round these parts.
If we can't have religion, then what are we going to put the fear of into children? Nationalism?!
