Ventrilo constantly stops working

Ok so this is a friend that's always on vent with me, but he's lazy and won't make a thread on it.

This is something that has seemed to get worse and worse, but basically he'll be talking and then every so often, we can no longer hear him.

this is usually after he hasn't talked for a while.

The way it fixes is he logs out of vent then logs back in.

It's gotten so bad though he has to do it about every minute.

It doesn't sound like there's anything wrong with his mic, and this only started recently (maybe a few months ago).


Any suggestions as to what might be causing this?

Does his 'channel' light up and you just don't hear anything? What happens if he goes into config and attempts test mode when it gets this way?

I had a friend that had this same problem using my vent server. I am not 100% sure this is the problem, but I think it stopped doing it when he turned on direct input (being at work and without a vent client to look at I think that is the name) and it started working fine.

ya he still lights up but no sound, I told him to try the test mode next time he stops working.

worst case scenario, perform a reinstall of vent and see if it solves the problem.

So far still happening, but seems less often. Checking the test mode also helps to "kick" it back in.

When you go into test mode, I don't remember which button it is but one of the two buttons for test mode should have a rapidly scrolling "list" that should show numbers whenever you speak, and the numbers should get significantly higher when speaking than when idle (if there are any numbers at all when idle). What happens when his cuts out and is in that mode?

When he logs out and back in do you hear everything he said before without a pause and are you using Win7?
If yes then the problem lies with you and not your friend.
